Harry H. Nakata, M.D.
HARRY H. NAKATA, M.D. May 31, 1922-July 23, 2014 Dr Nakata was a retired physician who passed away in Honolulu. He attended the University of Buffalo Medical School with additional training at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, NY. Prior to that, he was stationed in Yokohama, Japan, where he met his future wife, Elaine (deceased), and served in the US Army negotiating US Army contracts with Japanese companies for merchandise sold in US Post Exchanges in Japan. Harry was also the first Nisei from Hawaii to earn a 2nd degree black belt from Masatoshi Nakayama, chief instructor of the Japan Shotokan Karate Association. He was also involved in the Japanese Akita breeding program after WWII. He loved traveling to Las Vegas to play craps and also traveled extensively throughout Europe, the Middle East, Asia, & North America. He is survived by his sister, Grace Nakata of Paris, France; Son, Calvin Nakata of Chicago, IL; Daughters, Lorraine Pagano of Stamford, CT (Patrick Pagano - husband), Judith Maetani of Los Angeles, CA (Kyle Maetani - husband), Audrey Nakata of Honolulu, HI; Dog, Brownie Nakata; and two grandchildren, Reid Maetani and Marissa Maetani.
