CLYDE ALEXANDER PALIKALUHI FRENCH Our beloved Father, Clyde Alexander Palikaluhi French of Omao, Kauai, passed into heaven peacefully at his home surrounded by loved ones on Oct. 28th 2014 he was 92. Clyde was born on May 23 1922 on Oahu in Niu. He was a Vice President of First Hawaiian Bank and worked for the bank for 47 years. After retiring from the bank he moved back to Kauai and worked with his son and daughter-in-law at Brennecke's Beach Broiler and Nukumoi Surf Co. for 20 years before his 2nd retirement. He served in the United States Army Airforce and vividly remembered the attack on Pearl Harbor. A veteran of WWII, Clyde participated in the Pacific Theater Campaign, including a tour of duty on the Island of Saipan. An active outdoors enthusiast, during his lifetime Clyde enjoyed surfing, sailing, golf, fishing, hunting and four wheeling the often muddy roads of Kokee in his World War II surplus jeep. Clyde freely donated his time to many civic and charitable organizations including serving as President of the Lihue Rotary Club, was on the Board of Directors of G. N. Wilcox Hospital, the Waioli Mission House and several other organizations and is fondly remembered by many. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert Kuhio Kalanianaole French and his mother Margaret Wassman French, his beloved wife of 52 years Mavis Chaney French, and his wife Nita Hayes French of 6 years and grandson Robert Dyck. He is survived by his sister Emma Lichota of Kailua, eldest daughter Iwalani French ( Brian ) Dyck of Verdi Nv., Robert Chaney (Christine) French of Omao, Leilani French ( Flip) McDiarmid of Kailua, Oahu, Grandchildren, Matt Dyck, Buck Dyck, Rochelle Ballard, Hoku Gordines, Kelly French, Jessica Owen, Kainoa French, Heather Asher, Mac McDiarmid, Shannon Lambert, and 15 great grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be held 2-5 pm, Nov. 29th at St. Michaels and All Angels in Lihue. Arrangements were handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary. The family has requested any gifts addressed to the GN Wilcox Foundation and Kauai Hospice.
