Posted On December 16th, 2014 -

$nameREV. NANCY I. CONLEY Nov. 23, 2014 In Loving Memory Nancy Ida Conley September 3, 1936 – November 23, 2014. Nancy was born in Detroit, MI to Edna and Ernest Eminger. Married to Robert G. Conley 1955-1978, Nancy moved to the islands in 1970 and raised 4 beautiful children. Working at Calvary by the Sea (Niu Valley), Holy Nativity (Niu Valley), The Arc (Waialae), L’Arche (BC, Canada) and the Alzheimer’s Association of Hawaii (Honolulu), Nancy found her calling to serve. She was ordained a deacon of the Episcopal Church in 1991, serving at St. George’s (Pearl Harbor), Waikiki Episcopal Chapel, and, most recently, St. Timothy’s (Aiea). She was also a chaplain at the Hawaii State Hospital (Kaneohe), the director of the Spiritual Life Center (Honolulu), and the founder of the first chapter of the Order of St. Luke in Hawaii. Nancy touched the lives of many across the Islands and beyond: she led spiritual retreats across Oahu; travelled to Kalaupapa to follow in Father Damien’s footsteps; led “centering prayer” groups; practiced “healing touch”; studied and practiced iconography; and went on a pilgrimage to Ireland and England. She served the hungry and homeless in Waianae, and provided care and spiritual guidance to down-syndrome, autistic, imprisoned and hospice patients. Most of all she followed her calling to serve Christ and showed her children and others how to live a life of purpose, commitment, passion and compassion, and ultimately of peace and joy. Nancy is survived by her children and their spouses, Kevin (son) and Ann Marie Conley, Darren (son) and Lisa Conley, Kim (daughter) and Matt Zimmerman; grandchildren Brian, Kaila, Seth and Jeremy; her brothers and their wives, Gordon and Marge Eminger, Richard and Charlotte Eminger, and Jerry and Joanne Eminger; and by her “Soul Sisters” and many other dear friends and loved ones.
