$nameSANDRA C. MARCIEL Sandra C. Marciel, age 72, of Kailua, HI, passed away on November 20, 2014, in Honolulu, HI. Sandra was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on April 6, 1942. An only child, Sandra was born three months after her father Walter Wiechert, a merchant marine captain perished when the U.S. Army transport ship, the Royal T. Frank was torpedoed and sank off the Hana Coast in January of 1942. While still in high school to help support herself and her mother, she began working part-time as a model (The Advertiser once selected her as their choice for “Beauty of the Week”) and as a salesclerk at McInerny department store. It was there that she met her future husband of 53 years, James. She became a proud, full- time homemaker, raising three children. Then, for more than a decade, she and her husband ran a successful Ilima lei- making business from their home, adorning many a parade pa’u unit. For many years, she was a caregiver for her grandchildren and, in her fifties she returned to the workforce, employed part-time doing what she loved, working with children as a pre-school teacher’s aide. Her greatest passion was her family. Sandra is survived by her husband, James, sons Walter (Kathleen) and Ku’i, daughter Tricia, six grand- children, and eight great-grand- children. Visitation 9:00 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony’s of Padua Church, Kailua. Eulogy/ Remembrance: 10:00 a.m. Mass: 10:30 a.m. Reception to follow. Flowers are welcome. Casual attire.
