FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

DAVID (DAVE) BERRY
$nameDAVID (DAVE) BERRY Dave passed away on November 18, 2014. He was born on October 7, 1937, to Walter Eugene and Doris (Van Tassel) Berry in Toledo, Ohio. As his father was in the hotel industry, Dave lived in many states as well as the Caribbean. He often boasted that he did not live in a house until he was in his 30's. Dave followed in his father's footsteps and also worked in the hotel industry after attending the "best hotel school" at Cornell University. In 1989, he parlayed his hospitality experience and knowledge and purchased a small "mom and pop" travel agency which he grew into a flourishing travel company that he operated for over 20 years. Throughout his professional career, Dave was very active in Rotary clubs wherever he lived. After he retired to Hawaii in 2001, Rotary played a much bigger role in his life. In 2007, he was awarded the Service Above Self Award, the highest individual honor that can be bestowed on a Rotarian. Dave also received The Rotary Foundation's two highest awards, the Meritorious Service and Distinguished Service Awards. Dave loved to travel and was fortunate enough to visit almost 100 countries. His favorite place to visit was one that he had not been to before, in anticipation of the memories it would bring. Dave is survived by his wife of 40 years, Mary Ann, a sister, a son from a first marriage, cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as a host of longtime friends and fellow Rotarians. As a Navy veteran, Dave's ashes will be placed at the National Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl on January 14, 2015, with a committal ceremony at 9:30 a.m. All are welcome to attend. Donations may be made to The Rotary Foundation, 14280 Collections Center Drive, Chicago, IL 60693.

Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased
