SHIGEKO ASATO Shigeko Asato passed away on December 18, 2014 at the age of 87. She was born in Hamakua on the Big Island of Hawaii, on November 29, 1927 to Matsu and Uta Nakasato. She was the ninth of eleven children. Shigeko was a retired elementary school teacher and a tireless volunteer in the community, serving as the first woman president of the Hui Makaala Okinawan community organization from 1988-89. She is survived by her husband, Richard T. Asato, daughters Portia N. Ige (Gary Ige), Nancy N. Inouye (Leslie Inouye), Nora S. Kamikawa (Kurt Kamikawa), son Richard T. Asato Jr. (Rhoda Asato), ten grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Visitation: Saturday, February 14, 2015 at 9:30 A.M. at Borthwick Mortuary in Honolulu. Services at 10:30.
