Walter Ernest Bliss
WALTER ERNEST BLISS Walter Ernest Bliss passed away in Katy, Texas on February 7, 2015 at the age of 96 years. Walter was born in Greeley, Colorado on May 3, 1918. He attended public school in Greeley and graduated from the University of Colorado with BA and LLB degrees in 1942. Walter's father practiced law in Greeley, but owned an interest in a cattle ranch in Colorado. When Walter was 12 through 14 years old he worked on the cattle ranch during the summers. At 13 years old he received his amateur radio operator's license. He built his own radio transmitter and receiver and communicated in Morse code with other amateur operators throughout the United States. After law school Walter was a Special Agent of the FBI for over two years and then in the Navy for over two years. While stationed in Hawaii in the Navy he and Audrey were married. After he was discharged from the Navy in 1945 he returned to Hawaii where Audrey was waiting for him. He then joined a Honolulu firm of five outstanding lawyers, and practiced law with this firm for 35 years. When he retired in 1981 the firm had grown to fifty lawyers. While practicing law he was very active in the affairs of the Hawaii State Bar Association and was a past president of the Association. He was also a past president of the Hawaii Legal Aid Society. Walter and Audrey continued to live in Hawaii until 1991 when they moved to California. After Audrey passed away in March 2013, Walter moved to Katy, Texas in December 2013 to be closer to family. He is survived by his two children, Walter Bliss Jr. and wife Jeanette; Wendy Martin and husband Greg; four grandchildren, Keeley Bliss Motley, Tracie Martin, Todd Martin, and Tyler Martin; and one great granddaughter, Lily Martin.
