DR. FRANCIS (DOC, FRANK) M. TERADA September 8, 1927 - April 10, 2015. Francis M. Terada, 87, of Honolulu, Hawaii, passed away peacefully at home on April 10, 2015 with his wife Puunani ("Nani") and family at his bedside. He was born in Honolulu, Hawaii to Takeo and Hatsuyo Terada. He graduated from McKinley High School, Class of 1945. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army, 2nd Infantry Division and Military Intelligence Service Language School. Following his military service, Frank attended the University of Cincinnati (B.S. 1951) and the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine (M.D. 1956). He completed his internship at The Jewish Hospital in Cincinnati (1957) and his residencies in surgery at Malden Hospital, Massachusetts (1958) and in Ob/Gyn at Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan (1959-1961). He then returned to Honolulu to practice medicine for 38 years, specializing in obstetrics and gynecology, gynecologic cancer, and in-vitro fertilization. During this time, he served as Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology for eight years and as Chief of Staff for four years at Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children. He was one of the founders of Pacific In-Vitro Fertilization Institute which was established in 1985, and in December, 1985, Frank delivered the first test-tube baby in Hawaii. He was the first Medical Director of the Sex Abuse Treatment Center in Hawaii. He served as Clinical Professor Emeritus, Obstetrics and Gynecology at the John A. Burns School of Medicine, University of Hawaii and was a retired member of the Pacific Coast Ob/Gyn Society, American Medical Association and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He was a past lecturer at the East-West Center Institute of Technical Interchange and an honorary member of the Micronesian Medical Society. Frank had many interests and hobbies. He was an avid skiier, enjoying downhill skiing, longboard surfing in Waikiki and biking. Frank is survived by his wife Puunani ("Nani"), brother Harry, sister Hilda Takeyama (Roy), children and grandchildren. Special thanks to Robert A. Hong, M.D. and Lance M.
