FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

Elizabeth "Bette" Takahashi
$nameELIZABETH BETTE TAKAHASHI Age 91, of Honolulu died May 14 at home. Born in Poughkeepsie, New York on July 2, 1923, Bette moved to New York City to become an opera singer. It was there that she met the love of her life, Sakae Takahashi, on a blind date. They were married in 1946 and moved to Honolulu in 1948. Bette was best known for her charismatic personality, generous spirit, and passionate devotion to the causes she held dear to her heart. She was an entrepreneur who opened a successful bakery, a strong sounding board, supporter and companion for her husband's political and business career, a globetrotter who traveled to many different locations around the world, and a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. While there was nothing more important to Bette than her family, she also dedicated herself to community service as a leader and volunteer for the YWCA, Planned Parenthood of Hawaii, Aloha United Way, Queen's Medical Center, and the Honolulu Museum of Art. A 'firecracker' in her own right, it was Bette's joyful spirit expressed in her ability to connect with everyone, the twinkle in her eye, her hearty laugh, her curiosity, and her uninhibited opinions, that captured the hearts and minds of those around her, and that we will miss the most. Preceded in death by her husband Sakae in 2001, Bette is survived by daughters Karen (Lance) Takahashi and Kathryn (Kenneth) Teruya; sons Mark (Berit) Takahashi of Wellesley, Massachusetts and Brian (Maureen) Takahashi of Palos Verdes Estates, California; grandchildren Erin (Duke) Kinney, Blake (Michele) Takahashi, Dane (Joanne) Teruya, Marisa Takahashi (Justin) Amador; Christopher and Megan Takahashi; Nicholas, Christian and William Takahashi; great-grandchildren Taylor, Tyler and Lily Takahashi; Austen and Drew Kinney; Kate, Lauren and Luke Teruya. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at First United Methodist Church at 1020 South Beretania Street. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. with service to follow at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Elizabeth Takahashi's memory to Planned Parenthood of Hawaii, YWCA of Oahu, or the Honolulu Museum of Art.

Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased
