FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

Bernice Tsuyako Shimabukuro
BERNICE TSUYAKO SHIMABUKURO March 10, 1946 - June 22, 2015 Berni passed away as a result of organ failure in Stanford, California surrounded by her family. Born in Honolulu and raised in Waianae, she was preceded in death by her father Tokusei 'Roy' Shimabukuro and her mother Sachiko Ige. Berni graduated from Mid-Pacific Institute and the University of Hawaii at Manoa. She worked for forty years in the computer systems business. Initially a tech-writer, she later managed writers, word-processing groups, software engineers, facilities, and her own word-processing company. She finished her career at Sun Microsystems. Berni enjoyed volunteer work at the Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic (now Learning Ally) for several years. As a hobby she made quilts for friends and family. She also made and donated more than one hundred baby quilts to the Children's Hospital at Stanford. She is survived by her husband Bill Jones, her son Rhys Jones and his wife Aly; her stepdaughter Jennifer Jones; her stepson Chuck Jones; her sister Joan and her husband Karl Yanagihara; her brothers, Dennis and Oscar Shimabukuro, and their respective wives, Nancy and Kathy. We will miss her captivating smile, sharp wit, and generous spirit. A private celebration of her life will be held on July 18th in Palo Alto, Ca.
