WILHELM FRIEDRICH BILL BARTELS Wilhelm Friedrich "Bill" Bartels of Christmas Valley, Oregon, died on Thursday, February 5th, 2015 at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend, Oregon. He was 81. Born on September 12th, 1933 in Honolulu, Hawaii, Bill attended Waikiki Elementary School, Liliuokalani Junior Intermediate School, the Kamehameha Schools, and earned undergraduate and graduate degrees from Redlands University in 1955 and 1961 respectively. He also completed post-graduate work in Speech Pathology at the University of Washington. In 1956 he married Barbara Santell, and together they had two children, Eric and Valerie. In 1968 Bill and Barb were divorced. Bill was re-married to Susan Johnson (Shaye Bartels) in 1973 and had a son, Bre. After graduating from college he served as a pilot in the United States Naval Reserve, was Department Head of Audiological Services at the Portland Center for Hearing and Speech, and worked in many other jobs including life insurance, carpentry, and real estate. Preceded in death by his parents and four siblings, Bill is survived by his wife, Shaye, ex-wife, Barbara, daughter Valerie Mein, sons Greg Vlasek, Eric Bartels, Bre Bartels, eight grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. A truly unique soul, Bill was a charismatic individual who left a large impression with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held at the Kamehameha Schools Chapel on August 2nd, 2015 from 12-3pm.
