Arnold Green
ARNOLD GREEN Was born in Newark, New Jersey. He attended Antioch College and then went on to do his graduate studies in Social Anthropology at Harvard University. Arnold spent two years in Sri Lanka studying Theravada Buddhism. When he returned from his fieldwork, he met his future wife Linda in Honolulu, Hawaii. Arnold then started a long career of teaching at the University of Rochester, in Rochester NY; Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, NY; Chaminade University of Honolulu; and the University of Hawaii. While at Hobart and William Smith Colleges he was awarded a prestigious award for excellence in teaching, and a National Endowment for the Humanities Summer program to study religion. He retired to Eugene, Oregon briefly before moving to Los Angeles. He is survived by his son, Matt Green, of Seattle, WA; daughter Lissa Sorenson of Alameda, CA; his sister Nina Rosenfield of Los Angeles; granddaughters, Makalya and Violet Sorenson; and nephews and nieces. Arnold died unexpectedly July 9, 2015 of heart failure in Los Angeles.
