CHEAPE, CAROL AULT
$nameCHEAPE, CAROL AULT Memorial services will be held Thursday, August 27 at 3:00 p.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Lake Travis, 411 RR 620 South in Lakeway (aloha wear is welcome), for Carol Ault Cheape, who died at her residence Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at the age of 81. Carol Ault was born on Christmas Day, 1933, to Freeman Wilbur Ault and Julia Gwin Ault. At the age of eleven, she moved to Charlottesville, Virginia, and was educated in the public schools of that city, graduating from Lane High School in 1951. She attended Mary Washington College and the University of Virginia from which she earned a B.S. degree in 1955. She then began a long and productive career in education. In 1953 she married her childhood sweetheart and the love of her life, Douglas Cheape, in Charlottesville. In 1958 she moved to Hawaii, where her husband had accepted a position with C & H Sugar. During his long career there they lived on Oahu, Maui, Kauai, and Hawaii. While they raised a family she continued her education, earning a Master's Degree in Education from the University of Hawaii in 1983. She continued her career, serving as nurse's aide, testing at-risk students for the Hawaii Department of Education, and Special Education teacher. "Retirement" held no meaning for her: she continued to work for several years as a volunteer in several capacities. In the almost fifty years that she and Douglas lived in Hawaii they welcomed families and friends from the mainland for extended visits, and always with a smile, a hug, and a lei. She was active in St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Wahiawa and in her children's school activities. In 2006, now retired, she and her husband moved to Austin Texas, where she once again began a new life. She volunteered at St. David's South Austin Medical Center and Lakeway Regional Medical Center, and was a member of a Red Hatters Club and a local book club. Their "hospital days" were special to them: they never missed an opportunity to help visitors. She was always full of life and love, and will be remembered by all as a constant source of good humor and unflagging optimism. Carol was unfailingly loyal to the University of Virginia, her friends and her husband, and gloried in the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. She was beloved by her family, her children and grandchildren, and admired and respected by all who knew her. She is mourned by her husband of 62 years, P. Douglas Cheape; three children: Michael Cheape (Sharon) and their children Lauren Matsumoto and Matthew Cheape; Paul Cheape (Emi) and their children Jesse Cheape, Brandon Cheape, and Kaylyn Cheape; and Allison Cheape Parks (Randy) and their children Christina Parks and Eric Parks; and their dog Taco, whom they rescued in Hawaii and brought with them to enjoy their retirement in Texas. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to North Shore Chamber of Commerce, 66-434 B Kamehameha Hwy. Suite B, Haliewa, HI 96712. Obituary and memorial guestbook available online at www.wcfish.com.
