HELEN DOYLE McCORRISTON
$nameHELEN DOYLE McCORRISTON August 31, 1915 - November 8, 2015 Helen Doyle McCorriston, 100, passed away peacefully on November 8th, having lived a full life of grace, dignity, love, humility and humor. Born in Boston, Massachusetts to Irish immigrants, James Patrick Doyle and Catherine Connell Doyle, she grew up in Parker Hill, a blue collar Irish neighborhood, with her parents, one sister and five brothers. A conscientious student at parochial school, she matriculated to the Boston City Hospital's nursing program, achieved her RN license, and continued at the hospital as a nurse. In Boston, she met her life's love, Dr. Colin McCorriston, who had graduated from Harvard Medical School and was beginning his medical practice as an intern. They married and Helen became the cornerstone of the McCorriston family which consisted of a busy obstetrician and five rambunctious children. Devoted wife, loving mother, faithful friend, hospital volunteer, Cub Scout and Brownie leader, chauffeur, tutor, referee, humorist, sports trainer, chef, paper route supervisor, child psychologist and so much more to her family, Helen was the pillar upon which the family rested. Predeceasing Helen were her beloved husband, Colin, and siblings Jimmy, Arthur, George, Anne and Frank. Helen is survived by her five children: Fred (Marilee) McCorriston, Bill McCorriston, Kitty (Gary) Petersmeyer, Dorothy McCorriston and Betty Musgrave; her brother Paul Vincent Doyle who lives in Virginia; fifteen grandchildren: Dan (Marcy) and Terry McCorriston; Megan, Michael (Ginger), David, Alex and Connor McCorriston; Jon, Scott (Lauren), and Annie Petersmeyer; Nina (Eleu) Puhipau, Kit (Christina) Metzler, Katy Metzler; Heidi (Quinn) Hennig-Hance, and Kelsey Musgrave; and 16 great grandchildren: Charlie, Molly and Finley McCorriston; Zoe McCormick; Riley, Mia and Ana McCorriston; Madisen and Peyton Petersmeyer; Kalani Ahmad, Kahekili and Makana Puhipau; Andrew Metzler; Naulu and Ka'eo Nagata; and Colin Hennig-Hance. A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 30, 2015 at 4:30 p.m. at the Arcadia Residence Chapel on Punahou Street. Casual attire. No flowers. A private family burial will follow. Donations in Helen's memory may be made to the University of Hawai'i Foundation/Colin C. McCorriston, M.D. and Helen D. McCorriston Endowed Scholarship (UH Foundation, P.O.
