Seikichi “Sei” “Opu” Tokuda
013116HSA_B5_Page_1_Image_0008SEIKICHI "SEI" "OPU" TOKUDA Passed away peacefully on January 2, 2016 after a year-long battle with medical problems. Sei was married to Miyoko "May" Tokuda for 44 years until her passing in 1999. He is survived by his wife, Pat Folsom, brother Seiko "Sam," son David (partner Linda), son Ray, daughter Kathleen, niece Esther, hanai grandchildren Carla and Christy, and many close relatives in HI and on the mainland. He was born on August 17, 1930 in Waipahu, grew up helping on the family buta farm in Waialae/Oili Rd, went to Kaimuki High, and graduated from UH in 1953. He served in the U. S. Army, then earned a Ph. D. in Microbiology, University of Washington. After a few years teaching/research in immunology at University of Vermont College of Medicine, he settled in Albuquerque (ABQ), NM in 1966, and continued his work at the University of New Mexico. Sei was very passionate about the human and civil rights of all individuals, and dedicated his life to various civil and human rights organizations. He was also extensively involved in protection and preservation of sanctuaries for birds and animals. During the last decade+, he enjoyed traveling with his wife Pat, especially to Hawaii for birding, Okinawan festivals, and most of all, to "talk story" with his brothers, other family, and friends. A dual memorial service for Sei and his dear brother Robert Seiji "Bob" Tokuda (who passed on Saturday, January 23, 2016), will be held on February 6th at 10 am, Jikoen Hongwanji Mission, 1731 N.
