FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

ALICE FISHER
$nameALICE FISHER Alice Daltry Fisher, age 88, died peacefully on February 15, 2016 in West Hartford, Connecticut. Born on December 6, 1927, she was the eldest daughter of Joseph S. Daltry and Faith Merriman Daltry. She grew up in Middletown, Connecticut, where her father taught music at Wesleyan University, and where she first met her husband Clyde O. Fisher, whose father was also on the faculty. She attended Vassar College, graduating in 1949. Following studies at the Cornell Nursing School in New York City she returned to Connecticut, and soon married her beloved husband, Clyde. They lived in New Haven while he completed his studies at Yale Law School, then moved to San Francisco in 1960, on to Puerto Rico in 1966, and to Hartford in 1969. Raising two sons in all these settings, she was a loving and supportive mother, dedicated to her family and community. Cheerfully enjoying hiking the woods and mountains of New England and the West, she was a steadfast and loving companion to her husband and sons. After Clyde's death, she moved to Honolulu, Hawaii in 1993 to help raise her grandchildren there. After twenty years in Honolulu she returned to Connecticut where she delighted in times with her great-grandchildren, finding enormous pleasure and satisfaction in the last years of her life. She was a kind and giving person, energetic in her caring for family and friends, and ever engaged in the communities around her. Active in the Planned Parenthood Foundation at the time of Griswold v. Connecticut, she was a leader in the League of Women Voters in three states for many years, including very actively in Honolulu while already in her mid-eighties. Blessed with a keen intelligence, throughout her life she was a spirited teacher, steady guide, and clear-eyed student of the human condition, politics, and the future of our planet. She leaves her son and daughter-in-law Timothy and Dina Fisher of Hartford, CT, her son and daughter-in-law Andrew Fisher and Dr. Virginia Pressler of Honolulu, HI, grandson Timothy V. Fisher and his wife Amber of Cambridge, MA, grandson Benjamin Fisher and his wife Susan of Baldwin, NY, grandson James Fisher of Davis, CA, granddaughter Katherine Fisher of Honolulu, HI, and great-grandchildren Garren, Nathan, Sylvia and Malcolm. She is also survived by her beloved sisters Mary Carson of Bloomfield, CT and Faith Compo of Rhinebeck NY, sisters-in-law Bonye Norton of Baltimore, MD and Heather Fisher of Melbourne, Australia, and many well-loved nephews and nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces. A memorial service will be held on April 16, 2016 at 2:00 PM in the Wesleyan University Memorial Chapel, in Middletown, CT. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name to the Planned Parenthood Foundation of America or the League of Women Voters. >

Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased
