ROBERT CHARLES FLAIR Robert "Bob" Flair, age 79 of Kailua, Hawaii passed away at his home surrounded by his family on April 15, 2016. He is survived by his wife Simone and daughters Jeanine Grandchamp, Yvette Elledge-Rhodes (Todd), Michele Beaumont (Dane), and ten grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Kenneth from Metairie, Louisiana. Bob was born November 8, 1936, in New Orleans, Louisiana. He graduated from Spring Hill College, Mobile AL and went on to Medical School at Louisiana State University where he was a Reserved Commissioned Officer grade of Lieutenant with the Armed Forces. Bob entered active military duty in 1961 with the Army and completed his internship and residency at Tripler Army Medical Hospital. He served as Chief of Pathology with the Third Field Hospital from 1967-1968 in South Vietnam. He received the Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Achievement in 1968. Bob finished his military career at Tripler Army Hospital as Chief of Clinical Pathology, Lt. Colonel in 1974. After the Army, Dr. Flair was hired at Straub Hospital in 1974 where he worked for 27 years. His practice focused on clinical pathology and he served as Chief of Staff at Straub for many years, during which time he was a respected leader and helmsman for the hospital. He was warmly regarded by his fellow pathologists, laboratorians, and clinical colleagues. Dr. Flair also donated his time as Clinical Professor of Pathology at the University of Hawaii School of Medicine. He was awarded Clinical Professor of the Year for many years and was highly regarded by his students and fellow professors. Bob had a passion for travel and photography, visiting countries all over the world with his wife Simone, collecting souvenirs for display. He also enjoyed time with his family, tennis, watching sports, and reading. Memorial services have been held. Inurnment will be at a future date at the National Cemetery of the Pacific at Punch Bowl.
