The Rev. Ernie "Waimea Cowboy" Cruz Sr., 76, of Glendale, Ariz., formerly of Hawaii, former pastor at New Hope Puna and Assembly of God churches, and a Marine Corps veteran who served in Vietnam, died at home. He was born in Modesto, Calif. He is survived by wife Maggie; sons Ernie Jr., David, John, Tony and Guy; daughters Ernelle "Doodie" Downs, Stephanie Tyrin, Marissa Meredith, Tiffany "Tiffa" Garza, Connie Rincon, and Desiree M. and Sarah Cruz; sisters Linda, Rita and Dorothy; 20 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Visitation: 4 p.m. June 26 at New Hope-Hilo. Services: 6 p.m. Casual attire.
