FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

JAMES ROKURO YANO
$nameJAMES ROKURO YANO James R. Yano lived a life of devotion and commitment born on October 1st, 1929, and entered eternal life on July 13th, 2016. Born of humble beginnings in Kalihi/Palama, James was the sixth born child of eleven to Joseph and Shizue Yano. From Kalakaua Elementary to St. Louis High School Class of '47, to Boston College and University of Hawaii, Jim was committed to his family, to his education and to his future. Jim was devoted to excellent healthcare. He was the initial Chief Medical Technologist for the Kaiser Hospital system in Hawaii and after obtaining his Master's Degree in Public Health/Hospital Administration became an assistant hospital administrator at St. Francis Hospital. He gave his all in service to the hospital and the Sisters of St. Francis. There he used his God given gifts of leadership, mentorship and strength. Jim was committed to causes. Whether it was through his involvement in the State Legislature, serving on the American Cancer Society and St. Anthony school boards, creating the Shared Clinical Services, or in his unwavering support of the Carmelite sisters, Jim stood for what he viewed as right and just. He was persistent, driven and focused at his best; competitive, prideful and obstinate at his worst. Although some would disagree with his style, there are few who would question his sincerity and his best intentions in all that he did. "For I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7 James Rokuro Yano leaves a family of legacy: his loving wife, Helen Emiko Yano; his son Stephen (Gayle) Yano and his daughter Carla (Samuel) Kahiapo. He was blessed with 5 grandchildren; Taryn (Nathan) Kabei, Robyn Yano (fianc Corey), Kacie Yano (fianc Adam), Elena (Rexan) Colobong, and Jacob (Mason) Kahiapo and 6 great grandchildren; Chloe and Kelcie Kabei, and Emma, AJ, Jameson and Ronin Colobong. He is also survived by his brother Brian Sueo (Eloise) Yano and sister Mary Sunae Haruno. Through his life well lived, we will each extend Jim's legacy. As once was said, "I never want you to leave me, but when you go, I will be at peace knowing that you live within me, and I will carry your soul though my life ".
