BETTY MASAKO SAKAMOTO October 26, 1938 - August 21, 2016 Betty Masako Sakamoto, 77, passed peacefully the morning of August 21, 2016. She was the sixth child of nine children born in Honolulu to Yoshio and Kama (Azama) Higa. She joins her best friend Sylvia Keiko Youn (deceased 1993) and fianc� William "Bill" Schulmeister Jr. (deceased 2004) after many years as they unite in heaven. Betty graduated from McKinley High School and worked as a dental assistant to Dr. Pete Nishimura. She helped Dr. James Hayakawa when he founded Pedodontic Associates in Kahala, later expanding to offices on Maui and Pearlridge. Betty retired as office manager after 30 years to enjoy traveling. Member of Moanalua Garden Missionary Church. She traveled to Korea & Hong Kong with Keiko to shop, shop, and shop! To Vancouver, Seattle, Portland, Omaha, Orlando, Japan, Okinawa and Sydney, Australia with sisters and daughter Stacy. Betty enjoyed the Luciano Pavarotti concert in Modena, Italy with sister Edna. But Las Vegas was the most favorite place she enjoyed with Bill. They went several times a year for over 25 years. She is survived by daughter Stacy Honda, sisters Lillian Ishihara, Rose (Sadao) Shimabukuro, Edna Wong, Donna (Henry) Lee and brother George (Naomi) Higa. Also many nieces, nephews and their families. Her sister Haruko Toyama and brothers Richard and Alfred Higa predeceased her. Celebration of Life Saturday, September 24 at Diamond Head Mortuary.
