Peter was born on March 31, 1940, in Honolulu, HI. The oldest child of Harold and Ayako Matsumoto, he graduated with the class of 1958 from University High School (aka University Lab School) and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from California State University at Los Angeles. He was a licensed Certified Public Accountant. Peter started his career as an accountant with Hawaiian Telephone Company, which later merged with GTE to become GTE Hawaiian Tel. After he retired from the telephone company, he opened a national accounting franchise in Honolulu called Comprehensive Business Services, which catered to the accounting needs of small businesses. Peter later became the sole owner of a Hawaii corporation, Premier Business Services. Similarly, his company's mission was to provide accounting services to Honolulu's small businesses at an affordable rate, especially for firms too small to support an in-house accountant. Peter's overall goal was not only to provide accounting services to these small firms, but also to guide them patiently toward profitability. Through careful financial statement analysis, tax preparation services, networking leads, and assisting clients with their capital funding needs, Peter was able to provide astute direction and wise guidance to his many colleagues and friends throughout his long business career. With profitability as the overall goal for his business clients, Peter was highly esteemed throughout the consultancy community for his integrity and honesty. In 2001, Peter was selected by the Small Business Administration (SBA) as the State of Hawaii's Accountant Advocate of the Year. He also competed at the regional level and won the Regional IX Accountant Advocate of the Year award. Peter was also passionate about volunteering his time and energy outside of his business circle, so he could further impact individuals, neighborhoods, his State and even the world. Peter was active with the Rotary Club of Metropolitan Honolulu, the East Oahu Breakfast Club, the Hawaii Kai Community Church, and the Calvary by the Sea Lutheran Church. Peter also was a valued member of four professional organizations, the Hawaii Society of Certified Public Accountants, the Hawaii Association of Public Accountants, the National Association of Tax Practitioners and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. According to those who knew him, Peter was kind, generous, and truly lived up to his philosophy of being "always positive, always up-beat." He believed in people. When he saw a need he filled it, by extending a helping hand, giving words of encouragement and actively showing his support. He made a difference in the lives he touched. His was a life well lived.
