William Costa Jr.William Costa Jr., 87 of Pauoa, Hawaii died Nov. 2, 2016 at Kaiser Permanent Hospital in Moanalua. He was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on Dec. 19, 1928. William Costa Jr. was known by many names: Bill, Costa, Jr., Uncle and of course Grandpa/Papa. He is survived by Anna and Katherine Sullivan and was preceded in death by his parents William & Mabel Costa and his brothers Clarence and Harold. He is also survived by his brother John and his sisters in-law as well as his many nieces and nephews. William Costa Jr. being the dutiful son looked after his parents until their passing. He graduated from McKinley High School and than served 2 years in the Army Stationed at Schofield Army Base. William retired from the State of Hawaii as a Construction Inspector and soon after went on to work for Bowers & Kubota for many years. In his spare time he kept himself busy with yard work and watching basketball & volleyball games at Booth Park, as well as baseball games at the Ala Wai Field. He also loved traveling to California to visit friends. Grandpa we Love You and Miss You but we know You are watching out for us. Until we meet again.

Nancy Ione Emig Stabley 91 years October 4, 1925 - November 19, 2016 Nancy was born to Albert S. and Ione Lock Emig in Red Lion, Pennsylvania. She attended Red Lion High School and graduated from West Chester State Teachers College, West Chester, Pennsylvania with a degree in Elementary Education. Nancy was married to Lt. Col. Stewart S. Stabley, USAF for 54 years, who preceded her in death. During this time she and the family moved 10 times in support of Stu's career. She taught kindergarten at Edwards Air Force Base, Andrews Air Force Base and 20 years at Central Union Pre- School. She was the mother of three children: Steven (who preceded her in death), Sue Ann and Gordon. Nancy was grandmother to five and great grandmother to two, all of which held a very special place in her heart. During her 50 years in Hawaii her activities included golf, of which she was great at, 26 years volunteering as a Docent at the Bishop Museum, Central Union Church Women's League and Central Union Church Thrift Shop. Memorial will be held at Punchbowl December 15, 2016 at 1:00PM.

SHIGERU “STU” TSUBOTA

SHIGERU A retired U.S. Army Lt. Col., passed away on November 25, 2016, at his home at Kahala Nui. He was 98. Born in Honolulu on July 16, 1918, Stu was a McKinley High School and University of Hawaii graduate. He reported for active duty in 1940 and remained in the Army for 23 years, most of which were spent as an intelligence/counterintelligence officer. He was the last-surviving of the 16 original AJA officers of the 100th Infantry Battalion, which was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal. After retiring from the Army, he worked for another 17 years as an intelligence/ counterintelligence civilian for the Department of the Army. He received many awards and decorations, including the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Combat Infantry Badge, the Purple Heart, the United Nations Korea Service Military Medal, the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, and the Army Presidential Unit Citation Stu was an excellent golfer and all-around athlete, as well as an avid vegetable gardener and orchard grower, while living in retirement in California before returning to Honolulu. He spent many years active in veterans' affairs with the 100th Infantry Battalion Veterans organization and with the Military Intelligece Service Veterans organization. He was predeceased by his first wife, Rosemary (Kayama) and by his second wife, Mieko (Kabutan). He is survived by sons, Stuart (Katherine Weston) and Michael (Annette Tolomeo); daughters, Ann and Elaine Tsubota, and Joanne (Robert) Woolfenden; grandsons, Patrick and Daniel Woolfenden; granddaughters, Katherine Taljan, Elisabeth and Alexandra Tsubota, and Naomi Woolfenden; great-grandchildren, Gianna and Athanasius Taljan; sister, Sueko Hirasaki; many nieces and nephews; and five step-children and their families. Visitation will be 2 to 3 PM on Sunday, December 4, 2016, followed by a Celebration of Life, at the 100th Infantry Battalion Veterans clubhouse, 520 Kamoku Street, Honolulu. Parking is at nearby Ala Wai School. Dress is casual or aloha attire. In lieu of floral arrangements, contributions in Shigeru Tsubota's memory may be made to the National Veterans Network/Tides Center, PO Box 1221, Torrance, CA 90505 or to the 100th Infantry Battalion Veterans Education Center, 520 Kamoku ST, Honolulu, HI 96826. Clifton Kenichi Tsuji

Clifton Kenichi Tsuji was born on Jan. 20, 1941 and raised in the Big Island's plantation town of Papaikou. A 1959 graduate of Hilo High School, he completed his post-secondary degrees at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and the University of Washington, Pacific Coast Banking School. From 1969 to 2003, he worked for Central Pacific Bank, and retired as a senior vice president & neighbor island regional manager. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2004 and was chairman of the Agriculture Committee. Among his many awards, he was named the Hawaii Farm Bureau's Legislator of the Year Award in 2015. Tsuji served in the U.S. Army Reserve, 442nd Infantry, Company B, Hilo, from 1959-1965. He was also active with the Hilo Medical Center Foundation, Hawaii Island Japanese Community Association, Pacific Tsunami Museum, Hiroshima Kenjin Kai, Hawaii Island Chamber of Commerce, and the Kumamoto Kenjin Kai. He is survived by his two sons Ashley Allen and Ryan Kalei Tsuji; brother Patrick Tsuji; numerous nieces and nephews. December 2, 2016 at the Hawaii State Capitol House Chambers.
