Ms. Mary Joseita Nishida, 82, peacefully passed away Sunday 12/11/16 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Born in Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia Canada, Mary fell in love with the beauty of the islands while visiting her sister and brother-in-law who were stationed in Hawaii and later emigrated to Hawaii in 1965. Prior, Mary was a proud graduate of the 1958 St. Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing in Halifax where she was recognized by peers as "the student who in her classmates opinion, showed the most professional competence and best spirit of leadership, cooperation and initiative in curricular and extra-curricular activities". As a Registered Nurse at Leahi's Hale Mohalu, Mary worked tirelessly and without reservation with those afflicted with Hansen's disease for the majority of her professional career. Mary is preceded in death by parents Mr. and Mrs. Sydney Tutty, George Nishida, and siblings Billy, Bobby, Joan and Peggy. She is survived by children Cindy Nishida of Honolulu, HI, granddaughter Maya Lambert also of Honolulu, Brian Nishida of Munhall, PA., sister Sandy O'Donnell in Carlsbad, CA, and a multitude of nieces and nephews in CA, SC, and Nova Scotia, Canada. Mary's Celebration of Life service will be held at St. Patrick Church in Honolulu, HI on December 30, 2016 at 11:00. Aloha attire is requested and no flowers please.
