James Victor Sterling Jr.
James Victor Sterling Jr.A funeral for James Sterling, 88 of Chico will be held on Friday January 6,2017 at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine of Canterbury Anglican Church. James passed away on December 25,2016. He was born on March 29,1928 in Boston, Mass. He was the son of the late J. Victor Sterling and Ruth {Payzant} Sterling. He was preceded by his wife Gwendolyn M. {Botelho} Sterling in 2011 after 55 years of marriage. James was educated in the Quincy, Mass public schools and graduated from Kents Hill School in Maine. He graduated from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy at Buzzards Bay MA. He sailed as a engineer with Farrell Lines on the African Moon, Star and Grove. He served as Executive Officer on the USS Nemasket AOG-10. James joined the Hawaiian Dredging and Construction Company in the Ship Repair Division as a Ship Repair Supt. He was Vice President of Kapalama Shipyard, Dillingham Shipyard, Hawaiian Tug and Barge Co., Young Bros. Ltd, Dillingham Corp. of Guam and Senior Vice President of Shipyard Operations of Hawaii Maritime Division of the Dillingham Corp. He joined Pacific Marine and Supply Co. Ltd. And Honolulu Shipyard as Vice President and retired in 1993. Upon retirement, he moved to Chico, Ca to be near his children. He is survived by sons James V. Sterling III of Co., Jack Sterling and wife Darien of Chico, Ca., daughter Gayle Souza and husband Tony of Honolulu, Hi., Pamela Broker and husband Bill of O'Fallon, Mo. 5 grandsons, 3 grand daughters 2 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his partner Rosemary Worth from his 65 year ago relationship at Kent's Hill School from Saco ME and Chico, Ca. He leaves sisters Nancy of Kearsarge NH and Susanne of Middleboro Ma, 3 nieces and 2 nephews .In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in his memory to The Salvation Army, Shriners Hospital for Children in Honolulu, Hawaii.
