Walter William Larsen, Jr.Walter William Larsen, Jr., age 77 of Lihue, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his ohana, on Monday, January 2, 2017. He was born on February 6, 1939 in Honolulu. Walter is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Kaleinani "Nani" Larsen and his sons; Eric L. Larsen of Lihue and Greg Kekoa (Coleen) Larsen of Mililani, Oahu; his three grandsons- Nainoa, Makana and Kainalu Larsen of Mililani, Oahu. His brother Ronald (Mary Pat) of Makakilo, Oahu and sister Momi (Emil) Wolfgram of Kaneohe, Oahu; Brother-in-law Herb (Marie) Espinda of Minnesota and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Walter worked for the Social Security Administration for forty-one years. He moved to Kauai in 1986 to manage the Kauai Office in Lihue, where he retired in 2004. He graduated from Roosevelt High School, class of 1957. He received his Bachelors Degree at the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 1961. Walter developed an interest in sports that he enjoyed over his lifetime. It began as a member of the Roosevelt High School Track and Football Teams. He went on to play football at the University of Hawaii under Coach Hank Vasconcellos. During his lifetime Walter enjoyed participating in rugby, biking, swimming, aikido, jujitsu and canoe paddling. He was also an avid golfer and enjoyed working out at the original Kauai Athletic Club at Kukui Grove. Walter enjoyed being a civic participant in his community. He was an active supporter and volunteer for the American Lung Association. His interest in biking led him to participate in fund raising rides for the Association. He was a frequent donor to the Blood Bank of Hawaii. He served as president of the Kauai Seniors Centers Inc. and was instrumental in providing support for activities and resources to assist Kauai's Senior programs. Walter will be remembered for his calm and caring leadership, his loyalty and love for his ohana and friends. We shall miss his presence but we know he is at peace with the Lord. Mahalo Ke Akua. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at the Lihue United Church, 4340 Nawiliwili road. Visitation begins at 9:00a.m and Services to start at 10:00 a.m. Private inurnment.
