Jose L. Encarnacion81, of Kailua, Oahu, passed away on 3/2/17. He was born in Ilocos Sur, Phillippines and was raised in Lahaina, Maui, in a plantation family, before moving to Oahu. An alumnus of Lahainaluna High School, he eventually became the Business Manager for the Glaziers Union in Honolulu until his retirement. He is preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Rosalina Encarnacion, and two sons, Robert, and Jonathan. He is survived by sons, Jose Jr., and Ronald, grandson, Dylan, brothers, Ernesto, Herman, Roger, and sister, Helene Encarnacion, and niece Alyson, as well as many other nieces and nephews. One of his favorite pastimes was hanging out, talking story, and laughing every morning with his McDonald's gang of friends. Services will be held on Wednesday, April 5th, at St. John Vianney Church in Kailua 9:30am - 10:00am, (visitation) 10:00am - 11:00am, (program/eulogy) 11:00am - 12:00pm, ( Catholic mass) with burial at Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery in Kaneohe at 3:00pm.

EDWARD HIDEYUKI HORIO, HIDE 89, died peacefully on Thu, March 16, 2017. Born in Honolulu, Ed was a retired Hickam AFB aircraft mechanic, devout christian, and avid ukulele player. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Kevin Horio and Joya Kabel; brothers, Arthur and Rodney Horio; and many beloved nieces and nephews. "Snow is Falling on Mauna Kea" was composed by Ed and recorded by Genoa Keawe, receiving airtime in the '50s. His passion led him to the Ukulele Ministry, with friends at KoAloha and Kalihi Union Church. Betty Irene Konishi75,passed away unexpectedly at Queen's Hospital on Saturday, February 18, 2017. She was born in Shanghai, China but raised most of her life in Hong Kong. She graduated from St Mary's High School in Hong Kong and matriculated to Chico State College in California. After a year she transferred to the University of Hawai'i, Manoa. Betty met Robert and they were soon married. Together, they moved to Kauai where they lived for 15 years. While there, they had their two children before returning to Oahu where they have resided since then. A very caring, loving mother and wife, Betty will be remembered by her family as a progressive thinker and for not complaining about much, even though her quality of life had declined at the end. Our family would like to thank all of the doctors, technicians, nurses, nurse's aides, drivers, and office staff for helping to make her life better. Betty is survived by her husband of 55 years Robert, daughter Michele, son Chad (Mari), grand- son Cooper, brothers Peter (Marie) Yang, Jack (Elaine) Yang, Henry (Jean) Yang, Michael (Susanna) Yang, Kimmy (Bess) Yang, many nieces and nephews. All who knew her will miss her positive spirit, graciousness, generosity, and straightforward personality.
