FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

Edward Patrick Gavigan
Age 70, of Kaneohe, passed away at home March 3, 2017. He was born in Brookline, MA, to William and Margaret Hickey Gavigan, and grew up in Media, PA. He graduated from Devon Preparatory School and St. Joseph's University. After four years of Naval service, Ed went to work at the Veterans Administration in Washington, D.C. In 1994, he moved to O'ahu with his family and became the Chief of Vocational Rehabilitation & Counseling for the VA here. Ed retired in December, 2010, after 38 years with the VA. Ed loved sports, particularly basketball, and was an avid golfer. He also loved his Irish heritage and walking as St. Patrick in the annual St. Patrick's Day parade in Waikiki. Ed was a kind and compassionate person, and spent his life dedicated to helping others. He had a great sense of humor, wit and personality. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Marie; children, Margaret (Louis Castro, Jr.) and William Brian; two sisters, Anne Gavigan and Kathleen Gavigan (William Dixon). Visitation: 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary. Funeral services will be Thursday morning, with visitation at St. Ann's Catholic Church at 8:30am, eulogy at 9:15 am, and Mass. Burial at 11am at Hawaii State Veteran's Cemetery.
