On March 15th, 2017, Pauline "Lupua" Akina (Fernandez) at the age of 71, a retired Judiciary Clerk, an alumna of the Kamehameha School for Girls Class of 1963 since kindergarten, was called home by Our Heavenly Father. She was born on June 8th, 1945. "Lupua" is survived by husband, Daniel "Danny" Akina; daughter, Shellone "Nomilo" Akina-Keana'aina (Wilsam); son, Crayn "Kauahi" Akina; grandchildren, Ashton, Ashlee, and Aiko Keana'aina; mother, Florence P. Perreira; father, Paul Fernandez; brothers, Vernon Fernandez (Betty); Alan Fernandez (Paz); Gabriel "Gabby" Kalawai'a (Rozalyn); Francis Crabbe; Nolan Fernandez (Florence); Ryan Fernandez (Merri); Guy Perreira (Moani); Myron Fernandez (Sarah); Gregory Perreira (Lisa); sisters, Michelle "Kaulu" Amaral (Albert); Joann "Nanea" Perreira; Charlene Fernandez; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. James Stanton Seishiro BurnsApril 19, 1937 March 9, 2017 James Stanton Seishiro Burns, 79, died at Queen's Medical Center, on March 9, 2017, after complications from pneumonia. Burns was born in Honolulu in 1937, the youngest child of Beatrice M. Burns and John A. Burns, Hawaii's first elected Democratic governor. His middle name was in gratitude to Henry Seishiro Okazaki, a Japanese masseur whose assistance enabled the paralyzed Mrs. Burns to give birth to her healthy son. Burns graduated from Saint Louis College (now Saint Louis School) in 1955 and earned his B.S. degree from Benedictine University and his law degree from Villanova Law School. Burns worked summers as a park ranger at Glacier National Park, Montana. After serving in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1964, he was in the Hawaii Army National Guard from 1965 to 1977, rising to the rank of Captain, while also in private practice as an attorney. Burns served 31 years on the bench, starting as a per diem District Court judge in 1976. He was a member of the Circuit Court when he was named Associate Judge of the Intermediate Court of Appeals in 1980. He served as Chief Judge of that court from 1982 to 2007. Burns was also president of both the American Judicature Society and the James S. Burns Aloha Chapter, American Inns of Court IV. Burns is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Emme Tomimbang Burns; daughter, Meredith A. Burns (Henry P. Ting); granddaughter, Elizabeth Ting; son, Brendan P. Burns (Pat); brother John A. Burns, Jr.; and Dakota and Montana (pet dogs). Jim predeceased his parents and sister Sheenagh Burns. He was previously married to the late Lynette Hofmeister, mother of his two children. Leonard Kamp, Jr.Leonard (Lenny) Frank Kamp, Jr. passed away peacefully at home on February 5, 2017 at the age of 76 only a month after being diagnosed with advanced kidney cancer. Lenny worked for Hawaiian Dredging & Construction and Dillingham Construction for twenty years including his final two years as Vice President for Southeast Asia based in Singapore. He and his wife Becky returned to Honolulu to purchase and run Haas Insulation until they sold the company and retired in 1995. During retirement Lenny continued to be involved in business by investing in startup ventures as an independent entrepreneur and member of the Hawai'i Angels group. Lenny was active in sports, a private pilot, and a driver of fast cars. He and Becky were travelers who visited almost every comer of the globe. He was predeceased by his dear wife Becky three years ago. Lenny was born in Rochester, New York. He graduated from the Aquinas Institute of Rochester and studied at St. Bonaventure University before arriving on the Big Island of Hawai'i in 1963 for Peace Corps training and service in Borneo building roads and airports. Following the Peace Corps he came back to Hawai'i to earn a degree in Civil Engineering from the UH-Manoa College of Engineering and later an MBA from the UH College of Business as a member of its first Executive MBA class. He was a loyal and generous supporter of schools and charities including the Aquinas Institute of Rochester, Palama Settlement, Catholic Charities Hawaii, Aloha United Way, the Hawaii Community Foundation, UH Manoa College of Engineering and the UH-Manoa Shidler College of Business. He is survived by his mother Florence, brothers Denny and wife Sandra, Terry and wife Kathleen, sister-in-law Deborah Hung Lee and her husband Allen, brother-in-law Philip Hung, nephews and nieces Louis Hung, Andrew Hung, Brian Hung, Heather Kamp, Shawn Kamp, Cassandra Simpson and Kimberly Hill. Visitation will be at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 22 at the Newman Center Holy Spirit Parish, 1941 East-West Road on the campus of the University of Hawai'i-Manoa followed by a Mass of the Resurrection at 10:00 a.m. Free parking is available in the St. Francis School parking lot at 2707 Pamoa Road or $6 parking on the UH campus paying at the kiosks on Maile Way or East-West Road. Friends and family are all warmly invited to attend. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Lenny's memory to Catholic Charities Hawaii, 1822 Keeaumoku Street, Honolulu HI 96822.

RACHEL INFANTE WILLING MILLER94, of Pearl City, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2017, at home in Pearl City. She was born in Honolulu to prominent local businessman Miguel and wife Blossa Infante on April 4, 1922. She was a wonderful Waikiki entertainer and beloved matriarch. Her husband, William Benhart Willing, passed away in 1984. Years later, Rachel married William Champion Miller. The couple lived happily in Riverside, California, until Mr. Miller's retirement when they moved to Pearl City, Hawaii. Rachel is survived by son Douglas Benhart Willling, daughters Charlene Gohier, Sharlotte W. Cocson, Emily H. Willing, stepchildren Jonathan David Miller, Pamela Miller Erickson, Rachelle Nicole Jackson, Todd Champion Sellden, Brian Lloyd Sellden and many, many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mom enjoyed traveling to many Conventions and Events in over 20 countries, as she accompanied her husband who participated in the event as a Boxing Ring Official. In Korea, she designed various Eel Skin products for sales Internationally, and as a member of the Manoa Lyons Aboretum, she also enjoyed socializing & singing with her "Lei crafting" club. She is survived by her husband, Herbert BS Minn, (71 years of marriage), 2 sons, Hubert (Sandy, deceased), Keith Minn, grandson & granddaughter, Vail (Michelle) Minn, Shanti Minn, Great granddaughters - Sadie, Callie Minn, siblings, Henry (Alice) Kim, Lydia & Douglas SD Kim (deceased).
