Richard Boyd MeachenRichard Boyd Meachen slipped quietly from this earth into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior, wrapped in the arms of his wife on April 6, 2017. Rich will be remembered for his loving spirit, his willingness to help anyone in need, his kindness and his rascal sense of humor. He loved the ocean and fishing, the beauty of the islands, and he loved working in sales and helping his customers. Rich was born May 22, 1948 to Donald C. Meachen and Winifred Boyd Meachen, the second of three children. He was a 1966 Kailua High School graduate and after a short stint in the US Army graduated with a degree in business from Honolulu Business College. He worked in the same industry for 46 years, wholesale paper distribution. He started with Blake, Moffitt & Towne as a sales rep and then as a sales manager. When BMT merged with another company and became Unisource Worldwide, he became Division Manager and a Vice President. In 1998 he and his wife purchased the assets of the local Unisource Division and together they owned and operated PaperSource Hawaii, Inc. where he was committed to excellence in all aspects of the business. Rich was a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church of Honolulu where he was served as a Deacon, a Stephen Minister, in Children's ministry and was a member of the Men's ministry. Rich is survived by his wife of 28 years, Marianna Winstead Meachen, daughter Michelle (Marcus) Johnson, grandchildren Kainoa and Kahea, stepson Christopher Grillone (Meghan), grandchildren Jackson and Abigail, stepson Gabriel Sammet and a sister, Donna Needham (Pat). As well, he had an honorary grandson, Alex Park. Rich was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Wini Meachen, brother Charles Edward (Skip) Meachen and stepson, Adam Sammet. Services will be held on May13, 2017 at First Presbyterian Church of Honolulu at Koolau. Visitation at 10:00 am with a Celebration of Life at 11:00 am. Donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Honolulu or Hawaiian Island Ministries. The family would like to thank St Francis Hospice for their loving care, particularly his nurse Young and his caregivers from Wilson Care Group, Louis, Daniel and most especially Inez.
