TOMI TADOOKA BAILEY

TOMI TADOOKA BAILEY Age 89, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2017, at home with family at her bedside. Born and raised in Sapporo, Japan, Tomi was the fourth child of parents Tasaku and Shin Tadooka. At the age of 21, Tomi met and married Army Staff Sergeant Edward K. Bailey, Sr., a local boy from Happy Valley, Maui in May 1951. Married for 54 years, Ed and Tomi raised their seven children together in Waipahu. In 1962, Tomi began working for Hawaii U-Select Chinese Crack Seed Company. She started at the Kalihi Wigwam Store and later transferred to the Wigwam Store in Waipahu. After 32 years of dedicated service, Tomi retired from the Gem Store, Waipahu. Predeceased by her husband Edward K. Bailey, Sr., son James and grandson Ian Pezel, she is survived by sons, John (Yvonne), Edward, Mits (Cheryl), daughters Jan Bailey-Yoshino (Harvey), Ruby Pollock (Alan), Hannah Borges (Brian), 20 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at Mililani Mortuary Mauka Chapel, on Monday, May 15, 2017, Visitation from 9-10 AM; Burial at 1 PM at the Veterans Cemetery in Kaneohe. Aloha Attire.

Age 75, formerly of Honolulu, passed away on January 31, 2017 at his residence in Daly City, California. Graduate of Saint Louis High School, Class of 1959. Retired as a Communications Technician at AT&T California. Survived by sisters Betty Lowe and Margaret (Calvin) Lyau and many beloved nieces & nephews and their children. He was greatly loved and will be missed by all. A memorial mass will be held Saturday, May 13 at the Mystical Rose Chapel at St. Louis School/Chaminade University. Visitation: 9:30 AM; Mass: 10:00 AM. A private family service was held earlier at Diamond Head Memorial Park.

JOHN John "Kawelo" Kong Kee, Jr, 52 of Keaau, Hawaii passed away on April 9, 2017. Survived by parents John and Lei Kong Kee, sisters Florence "Keoho" Kong Kee, Mary Kapanui, Theresa Kong Kee Luke (Marshall) and his brothers; William Kong Kee and Sam Kong Kee (Candy), nephews; Kolomona (Summer) and Kamuela (Hoku) Kapanui and nieces; Faith and Sage Kong Kee, grandnephews and grandniece. A 1983 graduate of Kamehameha Schools, Kawelo had a deep love for Hawaii and shared that love through his music and dance. He worked for Disneyworld Orlando at the Polynesian Hotel as an entertainer and dancer. He traveled to Japan where he shared the Hawaiian culture and performed at numerous events. Kawelo loved teaching the students at Ke Kula O Nawahiokalaniopuu, a Hawaiian charter school. As a member of Halau O Ka Ua Kani Lehua he participated in the Merrie Monarch, other hula events and community gatherings. Kawelo lived life to the fullest! He will best be remembered for his generosity and fun loving spirit. Mahalo Nui for the loving memories. We miss youwe love youwe will never forget. 82, passed away at her home in Kailua, Hawaii, on March 28, 2017. Betty was born in Florence, South Carolina, on August 4, 1934, to Hallie Barnes and Jacqueline Revell Barnes. She was a registered nurse and retired after 20 years as head nurse at Pohai Nani Retirement Hospital. Betty's parents, her husband, Joseph Makaena Taitano, and her brother, Rodney, predeceased her. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Keolani, sister, Diane Pratt, nephews Michael Taitano, Corky and Chad Pratt, nieces, Skylar and Sadie Pratt, and sister-in-law Maydell Taitano. A private service will be held in June.
