FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

ROSALINA VILLEGAS CUBI
ROSALINA VILLEGAS CUBIFebruary 14, 1931-April 19, 2017 Rosalina Villegas Cubi was born on Maui, Hawaii on February 14, 1931 and passed away peacefully in Honolulu on April 19, 2017 in the home she shared with Fred and Debbie Watson, the family of her deceased, long-time partner, Rudy Watson, aka "Uncle Watson." Rosalina was second to the youngest of six siblings. Two of her siblings, Salome V. Llanos Moonens and Robinson V. Cubi pre-deceased her, as well as her parents, Cesaria Villegas and Donato Cubi. Rosalina is survived by her brother Rudolpho Cubi and her sister Matilda Cubi Correa on Oahu, and her brother Federico Cubi and sister-in-law Cordette "Lei" in Vallejo, California. Rosalina is also survived by many nieces, nephews and other family members living in Hawaii and multiple states on the mainland. Growing up, Rosalina was very close to her oldest sister Salome and helped raise her four nieces, Corazon, Lorraine, Norma and Shirley. Although Rosalina didn't have children of her own, she was a devoted and generous Godmother to Duane, Jeanal, and Shirley, all of whom reside in California. Rosalina's other niece, Cheryl Correa-Parenio, living in Honolulu, helped her with errands, appointments, and outings. Rosalina's favorite vacation past-time was playing slot machines in Nevada and California, as recently as last October 2016. Career-wise, her expertise was working in the meat department of large Honolulu supermarkets. Rosalina was an excellent cook, enjoyed baking, and loved the TV Korean soap operas. Her shared life with Uncle Watson, a part Hawaiian, gave Rosalina a deeper appreciation of the Hawaiian culture. The four nieces she helped raise also kept Hawaiian traditions alive on the mainland, and, during one of Rosalina's vacations in California, they held a formal Hawaiian ceremony naming her "Lokenani" (Beautiful Rose). She was an independent feminist, and a strong role model for others in the family. Memorial services will be at 6:30 pm on Friday, May 19, 2017 at Borthwick Mortuary, preceded by visitation from 5:00 pm that day. Holy Mass will be the next day, Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St's Peter & Paul Catholic Church, followed by burial at Diamond Head Cemetery.

Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased
