Melvin Joji Hirayama, 62 of Honolulu, Hawaii passed away April 16, 2017 at Island Hospice on 10th Avenue. He was born on February 22, 1955 in Waialua, Hawaii. He graduated from Mid-Pacific Institute and received his degree in civil engineering from the University of Hawaii. He retired from the City and County Department of Planning and Permitting after 37 years of service. A simple man with a brilliant mind, a wonderful smile, and a heart of gold, he promised to forever await us at Rainbow's end. He taught us how to live without confines and appreciate the simple things in life. His love of golf and being active with many tournaments earned him respect from peers. He touched the lives of so many with his loyalty and dedication to friends and family. Survived by mother June S. Hirayama of Waialua, Hawaii. Celebration of life will be held June 3, 2017 at Mililani Memorial Park, Mauka Chapel. Visitation from 5:00 - 6:30 pm. Service at 6:30 pm. No Koden or monetary offerings. Instead family encourages charitable contributions made in memory of Mel to organizations of your choice. Suggested are Mid-Pacific Institute, Island Hopsice, Queen's Medical Cancer Center.
