DOLORES L. KAU
DOLORES L. KAUDolores L. Kau, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend passed away on June 23, 2017 at the age of 80. She was born in Kahuku, Oahu, Hawaii on July 17, 1936, grew up in Kahana Bay, and is a Kahuku High School graduate. Shortly after, she and her twin sister enlisted and served in United States Army, stationed at Fort Monroe, Virginia and served for 2-1/2 years with honorable discharge. They are credited as the first Hawaiian Island twins to enlist and serve in the United States Army. Dolores relocated to Southern California seeking to establish a career in administrative services and build lifelong friendships. She met her husband Harry, was soon married and shortly after started a family. Her greatest enjoyments throughout life were her family, friends, sharing and perpetuating the knowledge, ways, crafts and beliefs of the Hawaiian culture, and a genuine care of helping people. A woman of many talents, she worked as executive assistant in administrative and human resources. Later in life, she would further her passion for the Hawaiian culture and enjoyed spending time with her 4 children, 5 grandchildren, family and many friends. She will be loved forever by all the lives she touched. She is survived her children, Glen (Grace) Kau, Kathleen (Lance Hama) Kau, Cheryleen Kau, Su-Lin (Dennis) Gray; grandchildren Jake Kau, Collin, Loyal, Kenzi and Cassidy Gray; sister Eleanor (Robert) Toon of Idaho; sister Ann Dominguez of Utah; brother William (Charlotte) Dela Cerna of Torrance; she is also survived by many other relatives here and in Hawaii. Memorial services were held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Chapel, 501 N. Rowell Avenue, Manhattan Beach on July 1, 2017 at 10 am. Burial took place at Green Hills Memorial Chapel, 27501 Western Avenue, Rancho Palos Verdes following church services. Casual "Aloha " was preferred.
