DEOGRACIAS AGBAYANI JR. was a man of great integrity with a strong work ethic, was intelligent, wise, and of most humble character. He was musically talented, and an avid sports enthusiast who loved tennis and fishing. He was an altar boy at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Ewa all through his years in high school and college. Starting at eight years old, he began clarinet lessons and became highly proficient in playing the saxophone, flute, and piano, with dexterity and passion. A graduate of Waipahu High School Class of 1955, he also attended University of Hawaii and played in the band at football games. In the 1950s he performed in several big dance bands, "The Serenaders" and "The Robins" at the Ala Wai Club House and various locations. He worked part-time at Easy Music in Waipahu and was a member of the Waipahu Aikane Athletic Club for many years. Deo was ambitious, hardworking, and was licensed in insurance and real estate. He had a very long and successful career with the United States Department of Defense, and Hawaii Air National Guard, 169th Air Control and Warning Squadron. After 42 years in the Hawaii Air National Guard, he retired as a Senior Master Sergeant, Air Control and Warning System Superintendent. He was awarded numerous medals and commendations for his superior performance. He was predeceased by parents James Deogracias Sr. and Thelma (Osen Gushi) Agbayani, sister Diane Abang of Alaska, and grandson David Nelson Rose of California. He is survived by daughters Audree (Lance) Clarke of California and Dawn Agbayani of Kona, son Darren (Nalani) Agbayani, and daughter Sharmayne Agbayani; mother of children Rose "Liz" Agbayani of Waipahu; brother Warren (Grace) Agbayani of Ewa Beach; six grandchildren, Alex Clarke of California, Jerusha (Warren) Dela Cruz, Abraham, John and James Creekmur of Hawaii Island, and Kuulei Agbayani of Honolulu; twelve great-grandchildren; aunties, uncles, cousins, and numerous nieces and nephews. Celebration of life will be held at Mililani Memorial Park (Mauka Chapel) on Saturday, September 2, 2017. Private family viewing 8:00 am, guest visitation 9:00, funeral service 11:00 and burial at 12:30 pm with reception to follow. Casual attire.
