FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

Jay Leonard Anthony Lembeck
Also known as "Jason," passed away on Nov. 26, 2017, at the age of 97, in San Luis Obispo, CA. Born in Chicago, he graduated from Northwestern Univ. with an engineering degree before entering the U.S. Marine Corps in 1943. He was with the Marines at Iwo Jima, and also was awarded South Korea's "Chung Mu" medal for training their Marine Corps, plus a U.S. Purple Heart, and other recognitions. Lembeck retired from the Marines in 1963 after settling in Hawaii, worked for the Dillingham Corporation, and trained many Hawaii business leaders. He earned an MBA at the University of Hawaii (where he also taught) and wrote a column in the Pacific Business News for several years from his home in Wailupe Circle, often while watching football, a favorite sport of his since captaining his high school team in Chicago. He was a life-long athlete and played squash in his 80s. Lembeck continued his business consulting in the oil industry in his later years and moved to Rancho Palos Verdes, California in 1990. He served on several boards. He is survived by son "Jay" Lembeck of Honolulu, daughter Linda Ann Lembeck of Maui, and three grandchildren. Burial will be at Maui Veterans Cemetery at 11:00 am on December 12, 2017. Memorial donations may be made to the National Veterans Association.
