VERNON ROBERT CHANG, UNCLE VERN Vernon passed away, surrounded by family, on December 05, 2017 at the age of 84. Born on June 19, 1933 in Honolulu, Hawaii, the eldest of four children to Robert and Louise Chang of Pearl City, Hawaii. After graduating from Mid-Pacific High School ('51), he joined the US Air Force rising to the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. Living in San Jose for 44 years, he touched many lives within the community. Vern formed a Hawaiian band called `Eono Kane, played at birthday parties, weddings, funerals, sporting events, festivals, and luau's. He was a DJ for KPFA and KKUP, non-profit radio stations where he played Hawaiian music, and promoted various talents and events throughout the Bay Area. Vernon is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Elizabeth ("Aunty Betty"), and younger brother Alvin ("Uncle Al") Chang. Survived by two sisters Robertha Omori (Walter) and Sylvia Murakami (Joe Young), son Roderick (Margaret) Chang, daughters Rochelle Ledwith (the late, Steven), and Renee Moreno (Adrian), grandchildren Rowan and Rebekah Ledwith, Cassandra Wong (Ryan) and Stuart Chang, Ariana Moreno, great-grandson Wes Wong, and loyal companion Leinani. On Monday, January 8, 2018 Visitation will be at 9:00 a.m. at Nuuanu Memorial Park & Mortuary - East Chapel, Service at 10:00 a.m. and a Committal Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (Punchbowl) with U.S. Air Force military honors. Born February 1, 1920 in Pu`uiki, Waialua, Masumi passed away peacefully on November 11, 2017. Preceeded in death by her husband, Edwin A. Ebisui, Sr. and daughter Carol N. Ebisui. Attended Waialua Elementary School, Andrew E. Cox School, Leilehua High School, Margaret Deitz Business School and Honolulu Business School. Bookkeeper for Eddie's Crane Service, Inc., and operated Haleiwa Marina Concession lunch wagon in the 1970's and 1980's where she was known for her ono luau stew, beef and curry stew, sweetsour spareribs, etc.. She also worked in the kitchen of Seaview Inn. She was a lifelong learner and strong supporter of education. Late in life, she went back to school and enrolled in the Women's program at LCC. She loved her pets, reading, traveling, meeting new people, gardening, sewing and cooking. She is survived by daughter Ellen T. Nemoto, son Edwin A. Ebisui, Jr., daughter Lorelei M. Campbell, 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 12, 2018 at Mililani Memorial Park in the Mauka Chapel. Visitation at 9:30 a.m.; Service at 10:30 with a short burial service and lunch following.
