Dorothy MasudaSan Jose The ever fun and lively Dorothy Masuda, 98, passed away peacefully in her sleep, in the early morning of December 27, 2017, with a smile on her face. Dorothy was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. She worked at her family's restaurant, Fukujutei Shokudo on River Street in Honolulu. She married, Robert Masuda on June 17, 1942. She had three sons, Ronald, Donald, and Earl. The family moved to California in 1957, settling in San Mateo, where they owned and operated Fuji Sukiyaki from 1957 through 1973. Dorothy was not one to sit still, deciding to return to work at Crown Plastics. She was an active member at Sturge Presbyterian Church through her life in San Mateo. In retirement, she stayed active by volunteering her time at the San Mateo Japanese American Community Center, as volunteer coordinator and Tomodachi group member. Toward the end of her life, she suffered from dementia/Alzheimer's, which moved her to San Jose. There she participated at Yu-Ai Kai Senior Center in Japantown. Dorothy is survived by her three children, Ronald (Patricia) Masuda, Don (Doug Baird) Masuda, Earl (Patricia) Masuda, six grandchildren Jennifer (Steve) Wong, Marianne Masuda, Bobby (EurJean) Masuda, David (Grace) Masuda, Matthew (Daphne) Masuda, Christopher Masuda and two great-grandchildren Miles Masuda and Luke Masuda. A celebration of life will be held for Dorothy on Monday, January 8, 2018, at Sturge Presbyterian Church, 25 S. Humboldt Street, San Mateo, (650) 344-6803. Please join us from noon to 2:00pm. Aloha attire. The family has requested in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her memory to any of her favorite organizations: San Mateo Japanese American Community Center (SMJACC), Sturge Presbyterian Church, and Yu-Ai Kai.

Lillian Leilani Parina74, departed us December 18, 2017. Her spirit passed into Paradise to blissfully abide till the second coming of Jesus Christ. Steadfast in her faith in God and constant in her love for her `ohana, she will be sadly missed. Lillian was born on December 2, 1943 in Pa`ia, Maui, Hawaii to Alexander McNicoll II and Helen (Park) Pi`imanu. Lillian grew up both on Maui and `O`ahu, Hawaii. She attended Farrington High School in Honolulu, as well as Wai`anae High School. After high school, she began working for various companies such as Woolworth and Hilton Hawaiian Village as a waitress. Lillian also worked at United Airlines in the flight kitchen. After raising her children to school age, Lillian worked for attorney Gary O. Galiher as a receptionist where she finally retired in 2015 after almost 30 years. Lillian married Victor Parina in 1970 in Honolulu, Hawaii. They were happily married for 47 years. Lillian was preceded in death by her father Alexander Boise McNicoll II, step-father Daniel Pi`imanu and older sister Constance (Chris) Kaniho. Lillian is survived by her husband Victor of Wai`anae, Hawaii; her mother Helen Pi`imanu; her children Clinton (Rosalinda) Chai, Tammy (James) Farrington, William Chai, VictorLee Parina, and Kory (Lawrence) Wilson. She was also survived by siblings Coreen (David) Beck, Linda (Keith) Ahue, Alexander (Elizabeth) McNicoll III, Danyette (Mathew) Kaopua, Meleana (Jim) Sibbett, Maylynn (Clyde) Reis, and Jackie (David) St. John. Lillian will also be fondly remembered by her 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Viewing will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Honolulu, Hawaii, West-Stake Center, 1723 Beckley Street from 8 - 10 a.m. on January 13, 2018 with a memorial service to follow. Dean E. Witt92, of Honolulu, died on Dec. 16, 2017. Born in Los Angeles, Dean graduated from UCLA where he participated in Naval ROTC and played football, including a Rose Bowl appearance. Dean moved to Hawaii in the late 1940s and was soon deployed on the destroyer USS Fletcher during the Korean War. He became an instructor for the Naval Reserve, from which he retired as a Captain. He worked at Cooke Trust Co. then First Hawaiian Bank as a VP and Sr. Trust Officer. For many years, Dean was chief financial officer and on the vestry of St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in Kailua. He was a member of Rotary and the Oahu Country Club, served on the Board of Kapiolani Hospital and as Treasurer of his homeowners association. Dean will be remembered for his gentle, gracious soul, uncanny sense of humor, unwavering integrity, endless patience and the love he showed his large family and many friends. He is survived by the love of his life, Joanna, his wife of 30 years; children Dean Witt Jr. (Suzanne), Larry Cross (Romeo), Ellen Carlos. Eric Witt (Jeanne), Brian Cross (Brett), Katherine Witt, Linda Vollert (Bruce), Donna Kranhold (Paul), Keith Winston, Kathy Winston and Kevin Winston (Jeff), 12 grandchildren and 13 great- grandchildren. Services will be held on Saturday January 13th at 11 AM at St Christopher's Church in Kailua, followed by a celebration of life at 21 Kalaka St in Kailua at 4 PM. A military burial at Punchbowl will be on Tuesday January 16th at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Christopher's church in Kailua.
