GEORGE JYOJI ABE

GEORGE JYOJI ABEGeorge J. Abe, 101, of Kailua, passed away on December 19, 2017 at the Care Center of Honolulu. Born in Honolulu on May 5, 1916, he was named Gogogoro to mark the 5th day of the 5th month of the 5th Taisho year. At the age of four, his mother took him to Niigata, Japan, and left him in the care of her brother. After high school graduation in 1934, he returned to Hawaii and lived in Nuuanu. George took English- language classes and learned the bakery trade at various Oahu bakeries, including Holly, C&W, Lincoln, and Krispy Krust. In 1947, he worked at Holland House in Kailua, met and soon married Lynn (Sato), and changed his name to George. The two owned Jean's Bakery & Fountain (1950- 1971). He was known for his tiered wedding cakes, Danish pastries, and goodness as an employer. He was the first president of Kailua Japanese Civic Club. After retiring as a baker, George worked as a City & County groundskeeper. He loved shore fishing, Vegas, bowling, sumo, UH sports, and playing tennis (until age 97) with his Kailua Seniors Tennis Club friends. He is survived by daughters Jean Sumimoto, Gloria Chapman, and Carol Abe; and grandchildren Mark Sumimoto, Rick Sumimoto, Ann Walsh, and Kelsey Yama- guchi. He was predeceased by wife Lynn and son Clinton. The family thanks the doctors, nurses, and caregivers who cared for George in his later years. Visitation from 10:30; service at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 18. Burial at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018. All at Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary.

She is preceded in death by husband George Boskie, son George (Bully) Boskie and great-granddaughter Tayler Nanea Pangan-Fergerstrom. She is survived by daughters: Anita (Honeygirl) Pangan, Carmella (Twidden) Mattson, Lana Lee (Richard) Mercado and Priscilla Jean Boskie; 13 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, 3 great- great-grandchildren and hanai daughter, Monica Talo-Agu. A huge thank you to Dr. Samina Ahsan and her wonderful staff at Kuakini's, Hale Pulama Mau's 5th floor for their exceptional care of our mom. Frank Anthony BriguglioAge 68, died on Dec. 9, 2017 in Saint Francis Hospice-Nuuanu, Oahu after a period of failing health. He was born on Feb. 20, 1949 in Brockton Massachusetts, and is the son of the late Carmello and Carmelina A. Briguglio. He began his teaching career in Brockton and lived the past 35 years in Hawaii as a devoted and highly acclaimed, locally and nationally recognized English teacher at 'Iolani School. Frank's philosophy was "I like to teach that students can be their own best teachers." His other hobbies included playing the guitar, photography, collecting comics, and his love of travel. He has been called home to God surrounded by his significant other Pamela Wong, his only brother Alec Briguglio, and several friends. A memorial service will be held at the 'Iolani Chapel on Feb. 24, 2018 at 11am. Michael Passed away on December 10, 2017 in Honolulu, Hawaii at the age of 67. Mike was born to David and Nellie Castro on May 18,1950 in Honolulu Hawaii, the middle child of five siblings. His family lived in Kalihi and settled Makaha. He attended St. Theresa, Stevenson Middle, and Farrington High schools. He married his local sweetheart Marilyn Maunu in 1973, and moved to Waianae in 1983. Mike was always an outgoing, fun-loving "people" person. He was a Service Advisor at Mike Salta, Jackson Auto, and Cutter Chevrolet; driver for PepsiCo; manager of Thrifty Car Rentals; co-owner of Waianae Auto Body; & appraiser for Pacific Appraisal Services, Inc. Mike was an active member of his church, Sacred Hearts Waianae, volunteering at the Food Bank and ushering for Sunday Mass. In retirement Mike followed his dream to see America! He purchased an RV camping trailer and spent summers exploring the United States with Marilyn. In the summer of 2017, he took his family on an Alaskan Cruise, the highlight of his travels. Mike is survived by his wife Marilyn; 4 children-Kalani, Kanoe, Noa, & Ikaika; 8 grandchildren; 2 sisters, 1 brother; & 99 nieces and nephews. Visitation at Borthwick Mortuary January 18, 2018 @ 10:30am. Service at 11:30am.

Manuel Aligado Cuizon Jr.Manuel (Manny) Aligado Cuizon Jr., 72 of Ewa Beach, passed away on Dec. 29, 2017 at Queens West Hospital. He was born on May 20, 1945 on Oahu and graduated from Farrington High school in 1965. He was an Army Vietnam Veteran and was there during the Tet in 1968. He worked for C. Brewer & Co. for 29 years and for Pearl Country Club for 10 years. A celebration of his life will be held in his honor on Friday, Jan. 19, 2018 from 10am-12pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at the Ewa Chapel, 91-1154 North Rd. Ewa Beach, HI.
