Age 88, of Wahiawa, Hawaii, passed away on January 15, 2018. Born June 18, 1929 in Kapaia, Kauai. Mela was a former Miss Kauai Runner-Up and attended Honolulu Business College. She worked for the State Department of Education. A devoted Catholic, she taught catechism classes, and served as a Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Wahiawa. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, retired SMSgt Zeke Izon; children: Maureen, Veronica (Edwin) Schack, Stephanie (Keith) Kimura, Thomas (Naoko), Patrick (Patti), Kathleen (Matthew) Anistasi, Dominic (Janice); brother: Manuel Heresa; sisters: Maria Roberts and Helena Roach; 19 grand- children; 11 great grandchildren.
