Gilbert M. Kimura
Gilbert M. KimuraGilbert Kimura, 79 of Honolulu, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at St Francis Hospice in Nu'uanu with family by his side. Gilbert was born on June 24, 1938 in Honolulu and spent his youth in Iwakuni, Japan after being stranded there due to the outbreak of WWll. Upon his return, he attended McKinley High School and then the University of Hawaii at Manoa. He served in the US Army and was honorably discharged and was buried with Military honors. Gilbert retired from Japan Air Lines after a long and distinguished career there, and also served on the Hawaii Tourism Authority and the Aloha Stadium Authority, He helped shape tourism into the thriving industry it is today. He enjoyed reading, traveling with his family, history, movies, and spending time with his grandchildren including playing chess which he taught them. Gilbert was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 52 years Ginny, sons Grant, and Lance (Terri) and 3 grandchildren Jordan, Landon, and Taryn.
