85, passed away on April 17, 2018 at St. Francis Hospice in Honolulu. He was born in Chicago. Dr. Shipwright taught in the upper preparatory division of the Juilliard School in New York before his appointment to the UH piano faculty in 1970. He won 5 consecutive performance scholarships at Juilliard and received his B.S. and M.A. before earning a doctorate at Columbia University. While at UH he gave 25 recitals. After retiring as Professor Emeritus in 1999 he gave recitals at the Mozart Music House in Honolulu. His many students benefited from his mentorship, expertise and warm personality. His 30 years at UH enriched not only the lives of his students but the community who were fortunate to hear him play as well as the lives of all who knew him. He is survived by several nieces and nephews. Services will be held on Friday, May 11, 2018 at Mililani Mortuary on Kukui St. Visitation: 10:00 a.m.; Service: 10:30 a.m. Favorite charity ALS Association.
