Fred Lee Noa
Fred Lee NoaMay 18, 1932 - April 6, 2018 Fred Lee Noa passed away on April 6, 2018 in Honolulu, Hawaii at the age of 85. He was born on May 18, 1932 in Lawrence, Kansas to Fred Kalainea Noa, of Hawaii, and Evelyn Webb, of Kansas. His father was a native Hawaiian musician who toured the country as a Hawaiian steel guitarist. Affectionately known as "Freddie", he grew up in Chicago's North Side and became the first Roller Derby star of Hawaiian descent and a Hall-of-Famer, known as "The Flyin Hawaiian". He later made Hawaii home and married Beverly Rivera Noa. An excellent athlete, Freddie loved big wave surfing, competitive volleyball, tennis and fishing on his boat. He worked in Real Estate and was a well-known bartender in such notable restaurants as the Red Vest, Nick's Fishmarket and Matteo's. He is survived by his son, Fred (Ginger) Makana Noa and sister, Shirley Noa (Joey, deceased) Carbone. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Mahina & Suns Restaurant, located in the Surfjack Hotel, 412 Lewers Street. ~ A Hui Hou Kakou ~
