FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

Thomas Masutsune Ikehara
91, of Hilo, HI, passed away February 23, 2018 in Vancouver, WA. He was born in Honolulu on March 17, 1926 and raised in Waikane. He graduated from the University of Idaho in mechanical engineering and worked for sugar plantations on the Big Island and Kauai, as well as repairing TVs and other electronics, and equipment sales. He retired as the chief engineer at Maui Electric Company on Molokai. Tom was an active member and trustee of the Parker and Hilo United Methodist Churches, and was on the Board and President of the Volcano Community Association, with Volcano Kumiai and Volcano Community Foundation, and various other community organizations. He was President of the Bito Doshi Kai Okinawan club for ten years and a member of Hui Okinawa. Tom was a kind and generous soul much beloved by family and friends. He is survived by wife Emily (Matsukawa) Ikehara, son Walter (Karen), daughters Laura (Gregory) Ikehara-Martin and April (Kent) Goya, six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and brother John (Betty) Ikehara. Visitation 10 am and service 11 am on June 2, 2018, at Parker United Methodist Church. The family requests no Koden.
