He then attended University of Hawaii where he earned a degree in Business Administration, then embarked his civilian career with the Commercial Banking Services for another 20 years. He is survived by his wife, Edna Dasalla; sons, Chester (Elsa), Matthew (Vanessa); five grandchildren; & brother Pedro Gavina Jr. (Fe). Nicole Hali'aaloha GututalaOn Saturday, May 12, 2018, our beautiful Nicole, age 25 and a mother of two young children, died in Jamestown, North Dakota. Nicole's ex-husband, Kevin Michael Hoff, Montpelier, North Dakota, was arrested the day Nicole died and has been charged with Nicole's murder. Nicole worked as a customer service representative for RealTruck of Jamestown. Born on January 23, 1993 in Honolulu, Hawaii to Wenonah Gututala and Lawrence Canape, Nicole grew up in Nanakuli with her parents, and in Kalihi with her maternal grandparents. She attended Pu`uhale Elementary School, and is a Class of 2011 graduate of Nanakuli High and Intermediate School. Nicole`s #1 love and passion were her children Jameson, 3, and Madelyn, 2, she loved them with all her heart and soul. Honest, loyal, creative, artistic, strong and gentle, with a positive attitude Nicole made long-lasting friendships. Surviving Nicole are her children, her parents, her siblings Pua (Mahlon) Kapule, Shayna (Kaimiloa) Mano, Tiarae (Kimo Akiu) Gututala, Leialohakekai (Rey Tabag) Gututala, Hokulani (William) Sotelo and Kamanakai (Sara) Canape, nephews, nieces, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends. Nicole was preceded in death by her brother Lawrence Canape Jr, her maternal grandparents Talima and Marjorie Gututala, and her paternal grandparents Richard and Beatrice Canape. BEATRICE SHIZUE HOSHINO79, of Pearl City, went on to be with the Lord on March 25, 2018. Her departure was unexpected as she had a heart attack at home. She was the youngest of 11 children, born on December 15, 1938 in Ewa, and raised in the plantation camp of Lower Village. She attended Ewa Elementary and graduated from Waipahu High School. Shortly thereafter she moved to Los Angeles with her Ewa girlfriends and met her future husband, John Hoshino, to whom she was married for 56 years. In 1971 they moved back to Hawaii and after working for 25 years she retired from First Insurance, and then went on to her second career of 17 years as the cashier for K's Bento-ya in Waipahu. In retirement Beatrice enjoyed spending time with her family, going frequently to Las Vegas, and spending time with her coffee gang. She was a long time member of the Palisades Baptist Church and was the secretary for the Shimane-ken jinkai. She is survived by her husband, John, sons Jay (Jennifer) and Brad (Lianne), grandchildren Jacob (Hiilani), Jonah, Ka'ua, Noah, Bailey, Brady, Nigel, and James, and greatgrandson Konnor. Bea was loved by many. She had the gift of sincerity and genuineness which endeared her to all whom she met. She was a positive, thoughtful, considerate, friendly, and generous person. We miss her greatly. Services were held on April 7, 2018 and she was interred at Punchbowl Cemetery on April 18, 2018.

Rudolph Jay Schaefer IV

Rudolph Jay Schaefer IV, born August 16, 1958, passed away from cancer on May 17, 2018 surrounded by his family. He was the son of Rudolph J. Schaefer III and Jane Isdale Schaefer, of the F&M Schaefer Brewing family. He graduated from Rye High in 1976 and received his architectural degree from RISD in 1992. He started his own architecture firm in 1995. He lived and worked in Hawaii from 2002 - 2017 and was instrumental in introducing the sport of lacrosse to Hawaii's youth. He taught architecture at the University of Hawaii from 2007 - 2012, and was a community member of St. Clement's Parish. Predeceased by his father Rudolph J. Schaefer III and sister Anne E. Schaefer. He is survived by his children: Alexandra M. Schaefer and Rudolph J. Schaefer V from his first marriage to Jacquelyn M. Hart; daughters Helena K. Schaefer and Janie K. Schaefer from his second marriage to Kikilia A. Fordham; mother, Jane I. Schaefer; four sisters: Martha H. Schaefer, Edme S. Zahringer, Lucia S. Chase and Greta J. Schaefer; step grandmother, Janet U. Schaefer. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his honor can be sent to the Aloha Youth Lacrosse Association and academic scholarships at his alma mater, RISD. A Memorial Service will be held on June 22, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Church in Stonington, CT.

100, born in Kauai, a resident of Honolulu, passed away on May 10, 2018. The 11th of 13 children, she was the last survivor of them all and a true matriarch to the generations that followed. Eleanor was the kindest, most generous person who loved living in Hawaii with all its blessings. She was able to tend to her love of gardening well into her 90's. Besides her kindness, she had a great depth of compassion that played out throughout her life in all the love and help she provided to so many. Eleanor was preceded in death in 1961 by her first husband, Thomas Toshio Enomoto, Sr., with whom she had five children: Aileen Hashimoto, Phyllis Lani (Paul) Sakanoi; Elaine Enomoto, Thomas (Sonny/Tom) (Lucille) Enomoto, and Dennis Enomoto. She was also preceded in death in 2017 by her second husband, Setsuo Izutsu, and is survived by her stepdaughter, Gail (Stan) Sakuma. The family extends special thanks and appreciation to her caregivers.... Romeo Cardenas, his wife Rachel, Jeff Caberto and Leonora Caldelinia. They went above and beyond at every turn and she called them her family as well. Services to be held on June 15, 2018, 10:00 Visitation, 11:00 Service, Nuuanu Memorial Park. Katherine Kam Hee (Chun) Jay KATHERINE KAM HEE (CHUN) JAY 98, passed away in Honolulu on May 30, 2018. She spent 30 years as an elementary school teacher. She volunteered her time in various capacities for the East-West Center, Associated Chinese University Women, Te Shih Sheh, Chinese Junior Chamber of Commerce, Oahu Retired Teachers' Association, and US-China Peoples Friendship Association. She also taught English in Taiwan and Guangzhou.
