CLYDE NAKAMURASurrounded by his family, Clyde passed away peacefully on May 23, 2018, at home in Sylmar, California. He was born in Lihue, Kauai on April 30, 1950. He taught auto mechanics at American Pacific College in California. Clyde is survived by his wife Graciela "Chile" Nakamura, daughters Melinda Nakamura, Melissa Nakamura, Jennifer Garcia, Jessica Lopez, Claudia Nakamura and Carla Nakamura and 15 grandchildren, Kylee Munoz, Jadee Munoz, Riley Munoz, Ryan Munoz. Emilia Garcia, Avelia Garcia, Ahnalia Garcia, Kenichi Lopez, Yasuko Lopez, Kazuhiro Lopez, Christopher Casas, Lily Casas, Emma Casas, Kal-El Gonzalez, Kara Gonzalez. Also survived by his brother Milton Nakamura and sisters Irene Nitta and Marie Hashimura. Services will be held in California.

Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, on August 5,1937, Bob was the son of Kenji and Mary Onodera of Pacific Heights Road. He attended Kaimuki High School, The University of Hawaii, and The University of Illinois at Urbana. Bob is survived by his wife Jean; his daughters: Lisa, Suzanne, and Kira; five grandchildren and his sister, Tamiko.

GRACE MARIE SAMPAIO PIMENTAL89, of Kaneohe, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2018. She was born on November 3, 1928 in Honolulu. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Clive Pimental, her son Randy Pimental, her brother John Sampaio Jr., her twin sister Delores Rapoza, and three grandchildren. She is survived by 5 children: Cindy Akiona, Clive Pimental Jr., Bryian Pimental, Debra (Tim) Ingersoll, and Christina Pimental and her two sisters Geri (Tony) Candido, Rita (Allan) Troche. She is also survived by three granddaughters, 13 great-grandchildren and her caregiver Lodenilla Ramos. Melode Gifford ReinkerAge 74, of Kaneohe, HI, passed away in San Mateo, California after a battle with glioblastoma. She was born on August 9, 1943 in Indiana and moved to Hawai'i in 1970. She was a children's librarian for 20 years, working at the Main, Kailua, and Kaneohe Public libraries. She was an active judge for the Hawaii Figure Skating Club for more than 25 years, and a dedicated T'ai Chi practitioner and instructor. She is survived by her three children, Matthew, Daniel, and Lisa Noelani Reinker; four grandchildren; Zachary, Coralyn, Lucia, and Rosalie; brother Howard Gifford. Services to be held at 3 pm, June 15th, Central Union Church Atherton Chapel courtyard, casual potluck reception to follow. FRED SADAO SAITO

FRED SADAO SAITO89, of Kaneohe, died on May 11, 2018. Originally from Paia, Hawaii, he was the 8th of 10 children born to Kumakichi and Mina Saito and grew up in plantation housing. Fred lived a long and full life. He saw combat in the Korean War and was awarded a Korean Service Medal with 2 bronze service stars and UN service medal. He returned to Hawaii and married Mary Elaine Harue Ibara. They were married for 58 years. They had three children: Sharon, Leslie and Kevin. Fred was a supportive father who encouraged his children to excel in their pursuits. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and family. He was a generous, kind and loyal friend, a mentor to many, and champion of the vulnerable. Curious and tenacious, he enjoyed learning and explored interests as varied as riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, art, music, shell collecting, training hunting dogs, boxing, fishing, earning his pilot's license, surveying and navigation, crossword puzzles, playing hanafuda, hunting, and studying Japanese language at night school. He reveled in gatherings of friends and family. Fred started Frelaine Electrical Service. He worked in Guam for two years at the start of his career. He laid the runway at Andersen Air Force Base in Guam, designed a multitude of commercial and residential projects in Hawaii, and made many friends along the way. He will be greatly missed. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife Mary, siblings Takeshi, Hiroshi, Elaine, Evelyn, Virginia, Akio and Stan, and nephews Greg and Dale. He is survived by his children Sharon (husband Bill), Leslie, and Kevin (wife Carmen), grandchildren Kyle and Ryan, sisters Ethel and Grace (husband Berg), sisters-in-law Christine, Ariana, Perl and Ann, and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. The family wishes to thank Drs. Glenn Stahl and Marios Voulgaridis, the staff at Aloha Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and Islands Hospice for their attentive and compassionate care. They provided comfort to Fred and peace of mind to his family, for which we are grateful. A private service and inurnment at Hawaii State Veteran's Cemetery will be held at a later date. Alies Mohan Samtani, age 76 of Honolulu, passed away on May 20, 2018. She was born in Papeete, Tahiti to Cambridge Jean and Denise Silloux on August 13, 1941. Spending time in her garden and with family and friends were Alies' passion and delight. After graduating from the University of Hawaii, she taught French at University High School. She and her husband were owners of Andy Mohan Inc. for over 50 years. She was active in the Rotary Club and served as the President of the Women's Ministry at First Chinese Church. She is survived by her brothers Franklin, Bergson and Janson Silloux; children Anand (Lisa) Samtani and Anila (Ei Jung) Yiu; and grandchildren Sue Yee and Sheung-Yee Yiu and Isabella and David Samtani. Services will be held on June 14th at Diamond Head Mortuary. Visitation 11:00 am, service 12:00 pm and burial 2:00 pm. Aloha attire and no flowers, please. She was born in Waiau on October 15, 1927, one of six children born to Kitono and Chikatada Nogami. She worked as a secretary, primarily for the University of Hawaii. She is survived by her husband, Richard Shomura; three children, Lisa (Timothy) Teague, Miki (Roderic) Moore, Mark (Rachel) Shomura; six grandchildren, Matthew, Christopher, David, Laura, Chad, Kelsey; and two great-grandchildren, Carson and Emmett; two sisters, Colleen Inouye, Janice Takasaki; and numerous nieces and nephews. Yoshiko Tamashiro, 85, of Aiea, went to be with our Heavenly Father on May 6, 2018. Her sister, Hatsue Smith, of Missouri, also passed away an hour earlier on the same day. Thank Jesus, for only He could have arranged to have Mom and Aunty Hat-chan walk through Heaven's gates together. Yoshiko is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Seiso Tamashiro. William Yoshito Thompson94, of Aiea, Hawaii, died on May 15, 2018. Born in Hilo, Hawaii, he attended Hilo High School and the University of Hawaii, and received a degree in Civil Engineering in 1950. He served in WWII with the 442nd Regimental Combat Team and received several decorations, including a Bronze Star. His career included: 18 years with the Hawaii County Board of Water Supply, serving as Managing Director for 8 years; 7 years with the Hawaii State Department of Land and Natural Resources, serving as Deputy Director for 5 years and Chairman for 18 months; senior management positions at the Hawaii Leeward Planning Conference and at R. M. Towill Corporation. For most of his life, he was actively devoted to the 442nd RCT Veterans Club, serving as president of the club for several years. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie, his children, Seth, Josh, and Andrea, 7 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren; he was predeceased by his eldest daughter, April. Services will be held Sunday, June 17, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Hosoi Garden Mortuary. Visitation 9 a.m. Casual attire.
