John NR Noland
John NR NolandJohn NR Noland was born on April 23, 1958 and raised in Honolulu. He graduated from Maryknoll High School in 1976 and from the start had a deep love for sports. He took this passion and went on to attend San Francisco State University to obtain a communications and broadcast journalism degree. Upon his return to Oahu, he began working at KITV Channel 4 as an intern. Shortly after, he became Les Keiter's producer and sports reporter at KHON Channel 2. Noland had the honor of interviewing many legendary athletes during his career such as Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Arnold Palmer, and Ronnie Lott, to name a few. Following Keiter's retirement, Noland became a sports anchor and continued on to have his own show airing on KHNL Channel 13 entitled Sports Jam. On his nal episode, he proposed to then girlfriend, Sylvia McAl ey went on to marry and within a year, their daughter Alana Nicole was born on May 14th, 1991. Noland worked on countless projects such as Hawaii Recalls, which aimed to promote local businesses and products, and started his own radio show on K108. His latest passion project was entitled Chinatown Cop, which he dreamt to turn into a television series, speak easy, and interactive restaurant where the legend of Chang Apana could live on. In his final days, John was ecstatic to include another member to his ohana when he gave his blessing for his daughter and soon to be son in law's engagement. He touched many lives in his 60 years and all those he encountered will deeply miss the enthusiasm, humor, and warmth he brought. He exuded positivity and love and considered everyone family. John is survived by his daughter Alana, her fiance Adam Wagoner, his former wife Sylvia, and his sisters Patricia Chung (Eddie), Kathleen Noland and Mary Ann Bratschi. Nieces and nephews; Dean, Kelly, Dara, Mike Jr, Michelle, Nani, Keith, David and Joshua. His celebration of life will be this Saturday, June 23, at the Waikiki Yacht Club from 10am-1pm Special thanks goes out to John's long time friend and "brother" Ron Panzo.
