Barbara Anne HannumBarbara was born and raised in Chehalis, WA and graduated from Pomona College in 1953. She joined the Army and became an occupational therapist. While stationed at Letterman Army Hospital in San Francisco, CA, she met her husband William Y. C. Hannum. They were married on March 15th, 1958. After postings in Okinawa and New Jersey, Barbara and Bill settled in Kailua, HI in 1964. Barbara loved to travel and was happy to have been able to visit 6 continents. Barbara is survived by her son, William Hannum (Barbara), her daughter Jean Hannum McCormick (Robert), her stepdaughter Vivian Kaye Bunkin (Paul), her sister Dorothy Kaye Graneto (Pat) and six grandchildren: Joshua & Conor Hannum, Katherine and Peter McCormick, Scott & Lisa Bunkin. Henry Konakakino Hulama Jr., age 70, of Waikoloa died May 25 at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born in Hilo, he was a graduate of Kamehameha Schools, a U.S. Navy Vietnam Veteran, a retired Honolulu Police Department Solo Bike Officer, a retired State of Hawaii Operations Supervisor at Kona International Airport and a member of the Hawaiian Thunda Motorcycle Club. He is survived by spouse, Barbara Hulama; son, David Hulama; daughter, Karen Hulama; mother, Annie Hulama; brothers, Michael Hulama Sr., Gerard Hulama Sr., Jesse Hulama Sr. and Stanford Hulama Sr.; sisters, Rowena Silva, Joanne Hulama and Faye Williams; grandchildren, Kaili & Ikaika Featheran, Hailey, Hanna and Derek Hulama; aunt, cousins, nieces and nephews. Frederick Doren Stone FREDERICK DOREN STONE 79, of Kurtistown, Hawaii, died May 29, 2018. Born in Freetown, New York, he earned B.S. and M.S. degrees from Cornell, and PhD. in biogeography from the University of Hawaii. After serving with International Voluntary Service in Vietnam and Thailand, Stone taught at SUNY Oswego, Evergreen State College, University of Hawaii, and was director of the Forest TEAM program at Hawaii Community College, inspiring thousands of students during his teaching career. He pioneered an interactive cave management model with the National Speleological Society. Stone led biological surveys of caves and threatened habitats in Hawaii, Thailand, and Australia, and authored publications about the evolutionary biology of cave-adapted insects. He provided expert witness testimony regarding industrial development impacting Mauna Kea's vulnerable biologic ecosystems. A life-long farmer, Stone developed a Cordyline (ti leaf) nursery where he specialized in the development of unique cultivars. He is survived by his partner, Deborah Ward and daughter, Achariya Tanya (Dave) Rezak, granddaughter, Alba, and sisters, Beth, Laura and Nancy, nieces and nephews.
