81, passed away on July 3, 2018 at Palolo Chinese Home. Born in Kapaa, Kauai to Shigeto and Hisayo Nakamura. Mel is a graduate of Kapaa High School and the University of Illinois, where he received his bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering. He worked at the Honolulu Gas Company where he retired as its vice president in 1993 after more than 30 years of service. He was a lifelong member of Lions Club International where he served as District Governor for the State of Hawai'i and as International Director from 2002 to 2004. His dedication to the Lions Club was only surpassed by his love and dedication to his family. He married his high school sweetheart Nancy (Tada) in 1961 and had been happily married since. Together, they traveled the world with the Lions, friends, and family. He is survived by wife Nancy, sons Kyle (Carol) and Curt (Charlene), grandson Riley, brother Paul Nakamura of Wailua, Kauai and sister Gail Stroupe (Jim) of Sonoma, California. He was preceded in death by sons Chris and Kevin. Funeral services will be held at Hosoi Garden Mortuary on Friday, August 10.
