Charles “Chuck” J. Ferrera Jr.

Charles Age 67, Charles "Chuck" J. Ferrera, Jr. passed away on August 9, 2018. Born and raised in Massachusetts, Chuck graduated from Oberlin College and later earned his Juris Doctor from Golden Gate University. He made Hawaii his home in 1981 after joining the firm of Schutter, Cayetano, Playdon and Pavey as a trial attorney. He opened his own law practice serving clients in Hawaii and California in 1986. Chuck is survived by his partner Janice P. Kim; mother, Regina A. Ferrera of Milford, MA; sister, Susan F. Fenn and brother-in-law, Ron S. Fenn of Danville, NH; brother, James M. Ferrera and sister-in-law Lydia Kappel, M.D. of Florence MA and their children: Laurel S. Ferrera, Charles B. Ferrera and Michael J. Ferrera, M.D. Chuck was predeceased by his father, Charles J. Ferrera, Sr. M.D. A celebration of Chuck's life will be held on September 26 at Hosoi Garden Mortuary in Honolulu at 30 N. Kukui St. Visitation 5:00 p.m.; Brief program 6:00 p.m.; Fellowship to follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Chuck's memory to Hawaii Public Radio, National Public Radio or the Hawaiian Humane Society. Arrangements Provided By: Hosoi Garden Mortuary

MARIA ALTARES SALVIEJOMaria A. Salviejo died at Queen's Medical Center West on July 30, 2018. She was born in Mindoro, Vigan, Ilocos Sur, Philippines on May 27, 1927. In the Philippines she was a school teacher for 20 years, came to Hawaii and worked at Liberty House where she retired after 25 years. She was preceded in death by her son, Sanford Salviejo. She is survived by daughter Sandra (Robert) Holmes; Grandson Lukas Holmes; Granddaughter Jana (Isaac) Pannell; siblings Flora Lorica and Domingo Altares. Visitation and Services: 5:30 p.m. 9:00 p.m. on Monday, September 10, 2018 at Mililani Mortuary, Mauka Chapel, Ka' Uka Blvd., Waipio. Visitation: 9:00 a.m.; Mass 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 11, 2018, at St. John the Baptist Church, 2324 Omilo Lane. Burial: 12:00 p.m. at Valley of the Temple Cemetery, Chapel Hill, No. 8, Lot 716, 47-200 Kahekili Hwy., Kaneohe. Lunch will be served after the burial at Pah Ke's Restaurant; 46-018 Kamehameha Hwy. Dorothy Garcia SilvaDorothy Garcia Silva passed away on Friday, July 27, 2018 at the age of 98. Our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, sister, auntie, cousin, loyal friend was born on March 23, 1920 in Honolulu. Dorothy lived each day with grace, gratefulness and faith. She taught all of us to, "Make each day beautiful." Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Jovenal Silva, her parents, and all five of her younger brothers and sisters. She is survived by her children, Stephen (Sharon) Silva and PJ Silva of Honolulu. She is also survived by her five granddaughters, ten great-grandchildren, a great-great grandson, nieces, nephews and all who were blessed by her life. Dorothy's Funeral service will be held at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at Star of the Sea church. Aloha attire. Private Burial at Mililani Memorial Park.
