83, died at her home in Gaithersburg, MD on Dec. 25, 2016. A longtime resident of Washington D.C., Lizi is survived by husband Richard Moy, daughter Meilie Ann Moy-Hodnett, and son-in-law Michael Edmund Hodnett, all of Gaithersburg MD. She is also survived by sister-in-law Elsie (Victor) Hoe of Kaneohe, brother-in-law Edgar (Evaline) Wong of Los Angeles, as well as many nieces and nephews across the country. Lizi was born the youngest of 7 children in Honolulu, Hawaii on April 4, 1933 to father Solomon Sing Hung Hoe and mother Mary A. Ching Hoe. After leaving Hawaii, Liz attended Parsons School of Design in New York City, and then continued with a very creative and diverse life. Besides being a graphic designer for Liberty House, Liz was a professional bespoke tailor and knitter. She had worked in the Washington D.C. office of Sen. Hiram Fong for many years and was the proprietor of Moy Oriental Kitchens in D.C. She was well known for her handmade collectible dolls and art pieces. Moy Oriental Kitchens was a popular DC Area shop and catering company. Through her shop, she not only sold ready to eat meals but also shared her knowledge of Chinese cuisine by teaching cooking classes. One of her former students is Patrick O'Connell of The Inn at Little Washington, which is the first restaurant in the D.C. metro area to earn three Michelin stars. In her spare time, Lizi was an accomplished gardener and tailor. She utilized her talents by creating handmade sock dolls for terminally ill children, and quilts and blankets for US veterans. Lizi and her husband Richard were celebrated for the exquisite gourmet dinner parties they frequently hosted in their home on N. Van Ness St., where they graciously welcomed friends, family and dignitaries alike throughout the years. A graveside service will commence on Sat. Sept. 29 at 10:00 a.m. at Diamond Head Memorial Park. She will be interred with her mother and beloved poodle Lii.
